The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) currently has an opening for the position of Controller. This is a full-time position and will be based in Frederick, MD.

A2LA is dedicated to the formal recognition of competent testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, proficiency testing providers, reference material producers, and product certification bodies. A2LA is looking for a motivated individual to oversee the financial management of a successful and rapidly growing organization. The Controller will be responsible for a variety of core accounting functions, including finance department functions, internal financial controls, liaison between departments, month-end financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting, cash forecasting, adherence to key performance metrics for finance, policy setting for financial controls and processes, capital budget controls, strategic financial initiatives, and special projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is directly responsible for managing and supervising a staff of two to three persons within the financial services department.
Position Summary
Responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day financial operations, activities, and planning of the organization.
Accurately generates, analyzes, and interprets financial status of the organization by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data to management and Board of Directors in a timely manner.
Responsible for the financial accounting systems including general ledger, interface with the database, subsidiary ledgers including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and current accounting standards.
Responsible for processing the month-end close process to ensure complete, accurate and timely financial reports in compliance with GAAP.
Prepare and supervise the preparation of all supporting information for annual external audit.
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing company financial and accounting policies and procedures.
Demonstrates excellent customer service by responding to financial inquiries from customers, vendors, contractors, and staff in a timely, professional and accurate fashion.
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor?s degree in Accounting (Master?s degree preferred).
CPA license is a plus.
Must have at least 5 years of accounting experience with at 3 years as an Assistant Controller or Controller.
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Experience working with accounting software, Microsoft Dynamics SL or Navision a plus,
Prior experience leading and supervising.
Non-profit experience desirable.
