The Hearing Screener performs hearing screens and provides education to parents pertaining to the relevance of hearing screening and early intervention. Records patient information and hearing screen results.
Performs hearing screens on newborns in the parent?s room (unless conditions do not permit) using guidelines and protocols established and approved by the Newborn Hearing Screen Program of MEDNAX by Program Coordinator, Regional Leader, or Hearing Screen Coordinator during training.
Observes and adheres to Universal Precautions for Infection Control as required by MEDNAX, OSHA, The Joint Commission and the respective facility/facilities where performing work.
Observes and adheres to company and department policies and procedures.
Adheres to program guidelines regarding screen results, verifying insurance information with parent and following proper batching procedures for billing.
Follows established guidelines for security and identification of infants as established by the Newborn Hearing Screen Program within the program manual located on site.
Provides educational information and literature regarding the importance of early intervention and prevention of hearing loss to the parent or guardian.
Follows company procedures regarding the input of data into the hearing screen equipment. Downloads data from the hearing screen equipment and uploads to Soundata when requested.
Participates in company and facility based orientation, classes, etc., including HIPAA training, to update or improve upon the procedures or protocol of, and/or to maintain a relevant knowledge of the Newborn Hearing Screen Program.
Follows hospital policies and procedures, including but not limited to proper patient identification, compliance, infection control, and safety awareness.
Recognizes potential problems and obtains assistance when necessary in a timely manner.
Assists coordinator in confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments, following up with equipment issues and training new staff as needed.
Earn and maintain CPR certification.
Other duties as assigned.
Experience working with babies or children in a hospital setting preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize daily tasks and assignments.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Able to perform accurate data entry.
Demonstrate sensitivity when handling infants.
Able to work on weekends and national holidays.
Education Level: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience Years: One to three months related experience
Experience Industry: Healthcare
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
