NURSE MANAGER/INFECTIOUS CONTROL Job Opening in Birmingham, Alabama - SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given to the patients. Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; coordinating training programs for medical support staff; recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems in the clinics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to determine the optimal allocation of staff.
Coordinates the care of patients during visit.
Serve as administrative authority for medical support staff.
Assures staffing is in place, request staff to backfill vacant open position(s).
Oversee medical support staff training and development.
Maintains proficiency with scheduling and assists with scheduling as needed.
Provides clinical expertise in the management of medical emergencies.
Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis and behavior management techniques.
Directs staff response to emergencies, such as severe weather, fire or bomb scare. Participate in fire drills. Directs disaster evacuation plan, as needed.
Assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
Prepare monthly reports as requested by the CMO.
Perform annual evaluations of all subordinate staff.
Perform other duties as assigned
DESIGNATED RN-INFECTION PREVENTIONIST
Serves and/or leads committees, as assigned, including, but not limited to, quality assurance, infection control, safety, etc.
Interacts with physicians, department managers, supervisors, and staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
Investigates outbreaks or clusters of infections. Monitors, analyzes and interprets bacteriology reports and infection statistics, recommends appropriate control measures to prevent dissemination of resistant microorganisms and pathogens. Communicates and investigates potential patient exposures and maintains records of investigation.
Develops, implements and continually monitors the infection prevention policies and procedures for all departments. Provides training to employees regarding safety guidelines in compliance with OSHA, CDC, and other regulations.
Participates in ongoing infection prevention educational programs for employees, including TB and HIV/Hep/Universal Precautions.
Prepares and maintains employee communication regarding prevention and precautions for dealing with blood borne pathogens.
Chairs the Infection Control Prevention Sub-Committee.
Directs and assist in preparing reports and statistical data for the medical staff, medical executives and facility?s administration and other members as needed.
Develops and coordinates the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility. Implements the program by formulating, establishing and evaluating policies and procedures relating to patient care infection control measures throughout the facility. Performs an annual assessment and develops action plans from the prior year activities.
Serves as educator and educational resource for healthcare providers, ancillary staff, patients, families and the general public.
Collaborates with occupational health in the development of strategies that address the risk of disease transmission to health care providers and ancillary staff.
Applies epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification and benchmarking, to identify target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.
Conducts; participates; evaluates; and/or applies relevant research findings to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology practice. Research includes epidemiologic studies, e.g. outbreak/cluster investigations, surveillance findings and other.
Collect, analyze and interpret infection-control data
Notify local, state and federal authorities about reportable diseases as required.
Plan, implement, manage and evaluate infection prevention and control activities.
Conduct infection control risk assessments for construction and renovation projects; equipment inspection, and pest control.
Educate individuals and groups about the risk, prevention, transmission, and control of infection, disease-specific care, appropriate precautions, and appropriate assessments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Maintain APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) Membership, and attend local chapter meetings.
Certification in Infection Control
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor?s Degree in Nursing with at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to organize, communicate effectively and knowledge of general corporate operations are a must.
