Principal Java Software Engineer (remote / virtual) Job Opening in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) is currently seeking a Principal Java Software Engineer.
The position is romote / virtual / work from home.
The Principal Java Software Engineer will be part of the DevOps Escalation team, responsible for providing technical support to our DevOps and Support organization.
This professional will be tasked with resolving complex, technical production defects as well as working on projects to improve the performance, durability, and maintainability of our systems.
The Principal Java Software Engineer will continually drive software improvements and ensure the best experience possible for our customers and additional will lead and/or participate in problem triage calls as needed and escalate issues as required. The Principal Java Software Engineer will also support and troubleshoot multiple enterprise-wide systems built on various software platforms.
Working with the team, the Principal Java Software Engineer will:
Provide expert advice around the configuration and tuning of software Platforms such as Weblogic, Websphere, and JBoss.
Work with the Business, Vendors, and Development to prioritize and coordinate new projects
Triage escalated issues between Infrastructure, Support and Development to keep the system operational
Respond to issues in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and Service Level Agreements
Analyze issues by performing root cause analysis; research and design short-term and long-term solutions
Research and promote appropriate cutting edge DevOps technologies and tool sets including (but not limited to) containers, micro-services, continuous integration, and automated deployments
Maintain application and product expertise to serve as an internal consultant for multiple applications and functionalities
Keep abreast of the new Quest Diagnostics initiatives and their technical impact to the organization
To qualify, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and background:
BS/BA degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 7+ years of professional experience in software development and DevOps
Experience with Java, Perl, Angular, SQL, Oracle, Unix/Linux, HL7, XML, Splunk, Chef, Docker, GitLab, JBOSS, Weblogic, and WebSphere preferred.
Additional skills and experience preferred:
Application experience with MS Windows, MS Office, MS Lync, and MS Outlook.
Excellent proficiency in problem-solving and troubleshooting technical issues
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent organizational, time management, customer service, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
Experience in development of systems and high-volume transaction applications
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Motivation to drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects
Overnight, weekend, holiday support may be needed on-call as required.
