Sales Representative - Food Industry Job Opening in Grand Rapids, Michigan - Job purpose
Ferris Coffee and Nut Company is seeking a highly experienced sales professional with key relationships in the grocery and retailer segments. This individual must have an undeniable excitement for the food industry and must be able to share this passion with our customers. The ideal candidate will have a high level of knowledge and understanding of the intricacies within the grocery and retail segments. Relationships with large regional and national companies will be vital for success in the role. This position requires a high level of coordination and communication (internally and externally) to ensure we are building thriving relationships.
Duties and responsibilities
Pursue, obtain, and build relationships with new customers within the grocery and retailer industry (regionally and nationally)
Cultivate an existing client base by being a trusted advisor in the industry, understanding the changing needs of customers, and surpassing expectations.
Communicate customer concerns, opportunities, new leads, and the status of existing leads to the Ferris team.
Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, and product uses.
Meet and surpass established sales goals and objectives.
Responsible for gross profit improvement and securing new business
Acquire product knowledge and remain informed on all product offerings and industry trends.
Conduct competitive analysis and information.
Qualifications

Strong critical thinking skills.
Naturally able to succeed with minimum supervision, ability to self-direct.
High school diploma or GED
Minimum 5+ years sales experience within the grocery or retailer food industry
Prior experience with the produce category within the food industry preferred.
Must have valid driver?s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves sitting, walking and lifting less than 25 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds on occasion.
