FT Staff Accountant / Tax Job Opening in Rochester, Minnesota - Smith Schafer, a multi-office accounting & consulting firm, is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our Tax/Small Business Department. This position will be based out of our Rochester, Minn. branch. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals and businesses while providing prompt, accurate and timely service to clients. Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity to protect client interests.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
Prepare simple and intermediate level individual and business tax returns
Assist with tax planning
Compile financial statements
Work in team environment with principals, managers and staff
Understand and effectively use current tax and accounting software applications when completing engagements.
Research technical tax issues
Requirements:
BA/BS in Accounting or related field
CPA or CPA candidate
1-3 years current experience with a public accounting firm
Strong technical, analytical and organizational skills
Proficient in Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with ProSystems software and QuickBooks is a plus
High level of organization, focus, exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills.
Superior communication and proofreading skills.
Customer-service oriented, shown by the following attributes: proactive, observant, knowledgeable and reliable.
Professional demeanor and appearance necessary at all times.
Abilities:
Apply independent thought process when working on special projects
Prioritize workflow and manage multiple deadlines within required time constraints.
Work efficiently and have flexibility to changes in schedule and work hours during ?busy season.?
Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Work in team environment with principals, managers and staff; Perform effectively in a team environment with all levels of client personnel supporting various industries.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand or sit for extended periods of time, as well as type/enter data at a keyboard regularly.
