Executive Director Job Opening in Fairfax, Virginia - A non-profit based in Fairfax, VA and established in 2007, Sustainable Innovations (SI) and its founder (a native of Rajasthan, India) have received many recognitions and awards including CNN Heroes, Purpose Prize, Lemelson-MIT Sustainability Award, Energy Globe World Award, and World Bank Development Marketplace Award.
SI?s mission is to pioneer enterprises that create access to clean drinking water and deliver healthcare to millions of people. These enterprises are modeled after established industries, assure co-investment by public sector, private sector, and beneficiary communities; and celebrate and leverage cultural norms to ensure sustainability. Our programs have reached 10,000 people in six villages in Rajasthan, and will be rolled out to 50 additional villages serving 100,000 people over the next 3 years.
Having matured the enterprise model, the founder and president intends to retire in a few years and, as such, SI is seeking an Executive Director who can build SI into an organization capable of leading the expansion of its programs and change the lives of millions of people.
Executive Director
The Executive Director (ED) will report to the president. The ED will:
Immerse him/herself in SI?s deep knowledge of people, culture, societal innovations, holistic sustainability, and core programs
Lead program development, resource strategies, and operations for planned expansion in and beyond India.
Build local capacity in countries to implement the programs and to secure co-investment by the beneficiaries, local governments, public institutions and social investors.
Spread SI?s sustainable philanthropic venture model to international diasporas, foundations, and other institutions.
Collaborate with technology centers, social think tanks, and implementation partners for speedy expansion.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership in an industry or non-profit sector, and in weaning non-profit organizations from their dependence on unending infusions of charitable donations to sustain programs for social good.
The ideal candidate is an entrepreneur with unrivaled passion for bringing water, delivering health care, and fostering quotidian innovations in and beyond India. The candidate will see SI as a start-up to launch their career and to serve millions of people in their lifetime.
The candidate will have hands-on experience in creating and delivering programs in challenging environments. They will be a pragmatic leader who sees opportunity where others see obstacles. They will be comfortable traveling to foreign environments, both geographic and experiential, and learning about new cultures, technology, and business models. Bachelor?s degree is required; MBA or MPA preferred.
