Laboratory Technician MTL/MT Job Opening in Guttenberg, Iowa - Job Summary
Performs a variety of microscopic, chemical, and bacteriological tests as ordered by the medical staff to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Job Specific responsibilities related to departmental key functions
Obtains laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, feces, and sputum using established laboratory techniques
Performs various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests according to established techniques and guidelines.
Performs proficiency testing and quality controls following CLIA guidelines.
Handles and prepares for transport any pathology or reference specimen according to reference lab protocols
Performs blood banking procedures following AAB guidelines
Interprets lab results and communicates results according to established procedures
Understands and abides by Federal, State, and CLIA guidelines
Properly maintains equipment and supplies according to manufacturer?s recommendations
Demonstrates proficiency in operation of lab analyzers and hospital information system
Performs EKGs and obtains accurate EKG print outs for physician interpretation
Qualifications
1. Education
High School diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a Board of Certified Laboratory Assistants approved school or eligible for qualification as a Technologist on or before 02/28/1992
Graduate of a formal Lab Technology Training School preferred or a Bachelor degree in chemical, physical or biological science.

Must be registered by an accredited lab organization such as ASCP, NCA, or have documentation of expected training.
3. Knowledge and Skills
1-2 years healthcare experience preferred but not required. Medical terminology skills required.

Must demonstrate strong customer service skills, organizational skills, team and interdepartmental communication skills
