Director of Sales Job Opening in Galena, Illinois - Greater Galena Marketing Inc. seeks a motivated individual to serve as its Director of Sales. GGMI is the official destination marketing organization for Galena/Jo Daviess County, Illinois and is responsible for promoting the area as a premiere year-round travel destination to consumers, groups, media, small meetings and conventions and niche markets.
This full-time position with benefits maintains significant databases and tracks efforts, successes and failures for analysis and is the strategist for not only promoting the Greater Galena area?s group travel amenities but is also the face of GGMI to influencers and group travel contacts.
A successful candidate must have the ability to sell.
Responsibilities:
Encourages groups to hold meetings, conventions, tradeshows, sporting events and group travel in Greater Galena area.
Assists groups with meeting preparations in advance of their arrival and while their meeting or event is in progress.
Assists in growing sales for Greater Galena area lodging establishments through tradeshows (i.e. American Bus Association, Heartland Travel Showcase, TEAMS, Student Youth Travel Association, U.S. Sports Congress, Affordable Meetings, Illinois Society of Association Executives, American Society of Association Executives, Group Connect, National Association of Sports Commissions) when appropriate and logistically feasible.
Tradeshow preparation, research and tradeshow choices beneficial to GGMI?s mission, setting appointments, providing information to meeting planners and following up with appointments on an as-needed basis.
Post tradeshow reporting.
Monthly reporting to President & CEO on sales progress, accomplishments and business opportunities.
Reports group counts and room nights from each hotel.
Quarterly reporting to state on group counts, room nights, financial impact on groups to the Greater Galena area and recaps tradeshow efforts and ROI results from those efforts.
Creates group itineraries for day and overnight motorcoaches.
Provides group correspondence and mail fulfillment.
Creates and adheres to fiscal year trade show/sales budget.
Create niche audience newsletter content.
Participates in ICCVB meetings (Tour IL, Sports IL, Meet in IL) when appropriate and logistically feasible.
Works with facilities in the Greater Galena area that might be used for hosting group events.
Liaison for site inspections on an as-needed basis.
Acts as liaison for event planners and Greater Galena area facility/event locations.
Works with facilities in the Greater Galena area that might be used for hosting meetings, conventions, retreats, reunions, etc.
Hosts hotel sales meetings on an as-needed basis.
Provides hotel sales training or consultations on an as-needed basis.
Provides sales support for lodging establishments in the Greater Galena area.
Keeps sales databases current with contact names within organizations GGMI works with routinely.
Ongoing sales solicitation.
Performs all tasks required to meet the evolving needs of the bureau and to assist the President & CEO to meet the mission of the organization.
Skills and abilities :
The work requires typing abilities demonstrated at 45 words per minute.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and general sales software applications.
Qualifications:
4-year degree in hospitality, marketing/sales or other appropriate tourism-related fields or equivalent experience.
Must be independent and a self-starter while working as part of the GGMI team.
Previous hotel or hospitality experience is a plus.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to lift 55 pounds, operate a motor vehicle and set up tradeshow displays.
Travel requirements vary. Most tradeshow participation requires multiple days away from home/office.
Must be able to conduct site visits to various facilities, attractions and hotels on an as-needed basis.
