Summary: Acts as initial contact for any/all Bariatric Care Center patients. Schedules appointments, procedures, and consults both internally and externally. Collects all data required in advance of services; Obtains pre-certification /verification of insurance and specified financial information. Collects co-pays and processes receipt. Coordinates financial counseling with Bariatric Financial Specialist. Completes FMLA and Disability Management paperwork for patients. Assists with collection of clinical outcomes information; Prepares patients for physician visits.
Formal Education Required: Post high school level coursework in healthcare, accounting, business, or public relations.
Experience & Training Required: One (1) to two (2) years experience in medical assisting and/or scheduling medical office setting.
Additional experience in registration, insurance verification, pre-certification a plus!
Excellent oral and written communication skills required Ability to pass typing test administered by Human Resources of 30 WPM. Ability to pass medical terminology exam administered by Human Resources. Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Products, or past computer experience.

Ability to obtain and gather patient financial and clinical data in a fast paced environment by telephone or in person and to apply such information accurately and effectively while maintaining confidentiality of all information. Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize in an ever-changing environment without sacrificing quality, delivery, or cost efficiency. Demonstrated math and analytical skills Ability to perform at a high level in a work team environment. Must maintain confidentiality of patient information. Assumes accountability for demonstrated behaviors consistent with the customer service policy. Maintains an optimal balance between exceptional customer service and the strategic plans of the Bariatric Care Center and Summa Health System.
