We are seeking an individual that is team oriented and is comfortable interacting with physicians.
Functions and Responsibilities
Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to review clinical documentation, extract data, and apply appropriate ICD-10, CPT, codes for billing purposes.
Employs expertise of coding software, coding conventions, local medical review policy.
Responsible for capture of all patient professional fees.
Meets minimum coding productivity standards within 3 months of employment or maintains minimum coding productivity standards during employment while ensuring accuracy of coding.
Communicates as necessary with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses and/or procedures and making sure the physician documents within the medical record.
Position Requirements
2- years of professional fee coding experience and familiarity with auditing, coding, billing, reimbursement, business office, risk management, finance functions
RHIA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding (CCS-P) required.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance; familiarity with researching coding issues (e.g. Coding Clinic,CPT Assistant,CMS website, etc.)
Strong organizational and prioritization skills required; Self- directed;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications ( Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records
Competence in the use of computers for business analysis and communication
Ability to exercise strict confidentiality with all aspects of the position;
Strong orientation to deadlines and details with ability to meet competing deadlines
Knowledge of Medicare national coverage determinations is preferred
Ability to complete detailed-oriented work in a timely manner;
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with solid judgment and discretion;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Professional and positive attitude.
