Controller Job Opening in Detroit, Michigan - Summary / Objective
Manage finance and accounting to provide information, primarily financial in nature, about the organizations activities that will assist management, its stakeholders and others in making educated economic decisions about the organization. Will contribute to the business strategy, financing and operations for the organization as a key member of the senior leadership team. Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the Board of directors and is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the areas of accounting, corporate reporting, risk, compliance, finance and treasury.
Essential Function

Manages the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports, including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets.
Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payables, purchase orders, petty cash, expense reports, accounts receivables, cash control, payroll processing and applicable tax compliance.
Ensures accurate and timely management of all accounts receivables including aging components, billing, cash receipts, and grant funding. Manages check statistic management, quarter and year-end payroll including federal, state and local reporting.
Assure corporate income tax compliance and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns and taking full advantage of favorable tax codes.
Establish and maintain systems and controls that confirm the integrity of all systems, processes and date to enhance the organizations value.
Provide CFO with accurate and timely reports to help facilitate financial requirements
Participates in special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Manages the accounting department of approximately 12-15 people.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines and filing cabinets.
Physical Requirements
This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. Position requires sitting for up to 8 hours or more a day; ability to lift files, open file cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Normal/regular days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with paid half hour lunch. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position could require up to 10% travel. Some out of state, overnight travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
CPA certification.
Seven years of hands-on accounting and managerial experience.
Non-profit experience preferred.
