Restaurant Hostess Job Opening in Omaha, Nebraska - Purpose of the Position:
To provide courteous and professional service by greeting customers at the door, escorting them to their table, presenting menus and taking reservations. Accurately and courteously handle cash and credit transactions for payment of guest checks in accordance with management company?s accounting and credit policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
Check restaurant for proper set-up upon arrival.
Obtain and assume responsibility for your bank. Handle cash transactions carefully and quickly (approximately one minute per transaction).
Control guest checks to prevent loss, theft or mishandling. Follow property procedures with regard to check issuance and control.
Check MICROS machines to make sure they are set up to the proper menu.
Fill out floor plan by checking station rotation chart. Assign side work schedule on floor plan. Post floor plan at host stand.
Perform station ?opening duties check-list? to maximize production and ensure that all opening duties are completed within ½ hour of beginning shift (approximately 30 minutes).
Warmly greet and acknowledge the guest in an upbeat, friendly manner immediately upon the guest?s arrival. Determine the number of guests in the party and preference for smoking or nonsmoking area.
Assign and escort guest to an available table within two (2) minutes. Equally assign/distribute guests to food and beverage servers to provide maximum and efficient service.
Record number of guests on guest flow chart per station. Next in rotation should be marked on this sheet.
Seat guests following a rotation of stations; once seated, issue menus. If there is an extra seat, remove the extra silverware and return them to credenza.
Provide guest with information on available food and beverage items. Suggest and sell special items. Introduce food server.
Inform server of any special requests (beverages, etc.) as quickly as possible.
Promptly answer the telephone within three (3) rings, and respond appropriately to the caller?s needs in a friendly and professional manner.
Take reservations.
Provide hotel and guest with proper documentation of all food & beverage transactions to
maximize revenues and minimize overages and shortages.
Inform kitchen management of ?on own? banquet functions that may utilize restaurant facilities.
Report any problems that may occur to management, with regards to service or a guest complaint.
Keep front entrance of restaurant clean and presentable at all times.
Keep menus clean; remove and replace any torn or soiled menus that are no longer presentable.
Maintain an inventory supply of menus on a regular basis.
Have complete knowledge of daily specials, soups and hours of operation.
Collect payment from guest/server. Count and give change to guest/server. Ensure correct amount of cash is given on money transactions.
In absence of room service waiter, answer room service phone within three (3) rings. In doing so practice and maintain good telephone techniques, sell beverage and menu items, take order and ensure timely delivery of room service order.
Have complete knowledge of MISCROS system (or register).
Accurately and efficiently fill out reports, vouchers, forms etc. to document daily transactions and provide accounting with necessary shift information. Follow hotel/accounting procedures in reconciling shift deposit.
Set MICROS machines (or register) to next shift?s menu and turn off machines off.
Perform tasks.
Maintain a clean and appealing facility in compliance with health code and safety standards.
Prepare for the next shift by restocking adequate supply of register tape, ribbons, mints, etc. at hostess stand. Reconcile register readings and distribute tips at end of shift, approximately 30 minutes.
Be familiar with hotel facilities and their location and hours or operation or where to direct guests to find this information. Know direction to get to hotel.
Provide positive, professional guest contact. Answer guest?s questions and solve guest?s problems and complaints promptly. Make guest feel welcome.
Marginal Functions:
Assist Dining Room Attendant/Bus Help with the set-up and cleaning of tables as needed.
Assist Food Servers and Dining Room Attendants/Bus Help with serving of beverages and bread.
Job, Knowledge, Skills and other requirements:
Able to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written from with guests andassociates so as to respond accurately and completely to people to give directions, instructions, information, answer questions and provide service as required.
Stand and walk for varying lengths of time, often long periods.
Operate computer, answer/use the phone and handle money.
Understand and efficiently operate the MICROS System (or register).
Memorize hours of operation and specials of the day.
Use arithmetic to accurately check totals and make correct change.
Lift approximately ten (10) pounds.
Able to stoop, twist, bend and reach to clean, serve food and beverages and assist guests.
Have an accurate short term memory.
