The Senior Accountant reports to, the Chief Financial Officer, Senior VP. The role of the Senior Accountant is to work with the other members of the Finance Department to meet the accounting, internal reporting, external reporting, regulatory reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, payment processing and fixed asset control and valuation. The Senior Accountant is expected to bring certain experience, knowledge and skill to the position as well as continually acquire new skills and abilities through on-the-job training and development. The Senior Accountant role is a hands on position having primary responsibility or support responsibility for a broad range of duties from payment processing to SEC reporting.
The successful candidate for the position will be detail-oriented, have a broad knowledge of accounting procedures and financial reporting practices, understand software and database systems and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
E* *SSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for supporting the integrity of the accounting system by ensuring that accounting transactions are correctly posted and financial and management reports are produced on a timely basis. Records accounting transactions within the Fiserv General Ledger System and QuickBooks software and prepares and maintains financial reports, as necessary.
Manage the payables process including invoice processing, check disbursements, vendor management system, payments monitoring and records management. Ensure appropriate processing and reporting of the year end 1099 process as well as the Maryland sales tax.
Responsible for supporting reconciling general ledger accounts as well as various bank accounts, branch cash totals and cashiers and expense checks.
Supports the preparation and analysis of the monthly Board of Director financial reporting package.
Supports the preparation and analysis of the quarterly external release of earnings and related filings with NASDAQ and the Securities and Exchange Commission (?SEC?).
Supports the preparation, analysis and filing of the quarterly Call Report with FDIC as well as examinations related to such filings by the FDIC and State of Maryland.
Supports the preparation, analysis and filing of the quarterly/annual 10-Q/K filings with the SEC including footnote development and Management?s Discussion and Analysis.
Supports the annual audit and quarterly reviews by the Bank?s external auditors including preparation of PBC schedules.
Responsible for suggesting and implementing changes to accounting and financial reporting procedures including implementation of new systems and software to improve the efficiency of processes.
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
Experience in general ledger accounting and/or financial reporting within a financial institution is desirable.
Should have at least two to five years of financial institution accounting experience.
