Project Engineer Job Opening in Birmingham, Alabama - Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Engineering from four?year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following along with other duties may be assigned:
Interprets design/drawings for crafts installing material.
Researches, recommends resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference?s, and errors.
Verifies all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications.
Prepares and disseminates all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor.
May provide technical support and direction of project material control functions including implementation and operation of maintenance program.
Researches and prepares field design change requests to resolve design problems with A/E or client.
Prepares drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
May provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials.
Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Calculates various statistical data?quantity take?off, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, equipment, etc.

Researches historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compiles summary to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
Participates in developing project update and bid package estimate documents.
Maintains files of working documents for back up to estimating figures.
Assists in the monitoring of conceptual estimates with actual cost data.
Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Performs drafting, charting, mapping and similar graphical presentation work.
Compiles data and information from technical and accounting sources; calculations and summarization?s of same as directed.
Assists in measurement, layout, checking and setting markers in field surveying activities.
Assists in estimating functions by performing quality takeoff, extensions, and data input.
Inventories, checks, examine and measures materials.
May assemble and bind reports, proposals, bids, estimates, schedules, and the like.
Arranges for and expedites outside reproduction services.
Performs such other assignments as directed by Supervisor.

Safety/Heavy Equipment Responsibilities
Safety?Coordinates all work as recommended by safety officer(s) including compliance with MSOS, personal protective equipment, of Health and Safety Plan and client/customer recommendations.
Heavy Equipment Efficiency?Ensures maintenance and service is being performed in order to reduce downtime and achieve lowest possible operating cost. Optimizes equipment scheduling using best resource to optimize utilization and rental resources as economically as possible. Assists in planning of work flow and equipment mix to ensure production at lowest possible rate.
