Opportunity to join a fast-growing, established property management company as Senior book keeper and Accountant, responsible for day-to-day accounting of the company and our property portfolio of rental properties.
Maintain all aspects of accounting including:
-Serve as the Champion and manage all accounting functions for two accounting systems: 1) Quickbooks and 2) Buildium, our property software.
-Perform a full array of accounts payable and accounts receivable duties including but not limited to paying contractor invoices, property taxes and HOA payments
-Post rents and commissions, reconcile Trust Accounts, Record journal entries, Provide monthly owner reports and distribute owner draws, send NSF notifications, complete security deposit refunds, post and follow up on tenant rent & other charges.
-Assist Property Managers with questions regarding statements and invoicing
-Process employee payroll, benefits and deductions
-Prepare and process annual IRS Form 1099s
-Compile tax information as needed for external CPA firm
-Manage the monthly general ledger close, account analysis, bank and balance sheet account reconciliations.
-Respond to tenant and property owner inquiries regarding monthly owner statements, rent collection, expenses and other charges.
-Process weekly accounts payable, check runs and bi-weekly payroll.
-Manage and oversee the work of one virtual bookkeeper
-Prepare and present monthly financial statements using Quickbooks.
-Prepare and present annual budget and quarterly reforecasts using Quickbooks.
-Perform monthly budget to actual analysis and explain fluctuations from budget.
-Resolution of accounting problems and issues as needed.
-Ensure adherence to policies and procedures to maintain effective internal controls.
-Make collection calls and email tenants for past due rents and unpaid tenant charges.
-Identify areas for process improvement and drive implementation to increase accounting efficiencies and overall company processes.
-Implement new accounting policies and procedures as needed to adapt to changes in the business.
-Ad hoc projects under the direction of the President and Director of Operations as needed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Experience managing the accounting close process
-Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and full cycle accounting.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Service oriented interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and relate effectively and positively with coworkers, tenants and property owners.
-Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
-Strong organization skills and ability to multitask efficiently and independently.
-Knowledge of or ability to learn property management accounting processes, trust accounting, Maryland Tenant-Landlord law, and industry specific software (Buildium or similar).
-Proficient in Quickbooks (or comparable GL system) Word, Excel and Gmail.
Required Education and/or Experience:
-4+ years full cycle accounting experience.
-2+ years Quickbooks (or similar).
