MUST HAVE ORAL SURGERY EXPERIENCE! Core Skill and Education Requirements for Surgical Technician: Current State of Washington Surgical Technician license Current BCLS/CPR certification. Oral surgery experience!! High School diploma or GED Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Must also have: Display effective verbal and written communication skills. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position; ability to organize and prioritize workload; ability to work independently. Must have a thorough working knowledge of surgical and aseptic technique, including knowledge of the principles and practices of the techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care. Must have knowledge of surgical equipment and instruments to clean, decontaminate, wrap and sterilize in accordance with company policies and procedures. Because it is possible that the person filling this position may be asked to chaperone the physicians when performing examinations of female patients, this position may need to be filled by a female. Full range of body motion is required including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Possess a thorough working knowledge of aseptic technique and its application and utilize same to reduce occurrence of infection by directing attention to infection control measures and environmental safety practices. Has a working knowledge of the physiological and anatomical aspects of procedural intervention as performed in an outpatient setting. Be familiar with and enforce all standards of care necessary to maintain accreditation. Be cognizant of work room/sterilization equipment activities and able to assume responsibility for such duties, as necessary. Participate in training, orientation and staff development programs. Maintain and increase standard of competency and performance; if certified, participate in appropriate ongoing education to maintain certification. Recognize and use proper lines of communication while presenting a professional and caring attitude to patients and peers. Assure patient and employee safety by following all facility rules and regulations addressing personal safety as well as those assuring a safe physical environment. Comply with all facility policies and procedures. Report any observed failure of compliance with the policies and procedures to the appropriate administrative personnel; seek assistance and direction as necessary. Specific Duties for Surgical Technician: In concert with other staff, make provision for instruments, supplies and equipment required by scheduled surgical procedures. Be responsible for documenting accurate, timely documentation of counts, complications, incidents, nursing care notes, charges, and surgical log. Identify procedure(s) to be performed. Inspect Procedure Room for cleanliness, appropriate set-up, supplies and equipment. Check function of lights, suction and mechanical equipment anticipated to be used during the procedure. In concert with other staff, open necessary instrument packs and supplies anticipated to be used during the procedure. Perform and document needle and sponge counts pre-operatively, intra-operatively and post?-operatively with the other staff members involved in the procedure. Transport patient from pre-operative area to OP Room. Positively identify patient by querying patient, checking identification bracelet, or other procedure. Compare signed consent to the scheduled procedure. Confirm procedure with patient. (If there any discrepancies, contact surgeon immediately.) Assist patient onto table to be used during procedure. Secure patient safety strap. Perform skin prep as ordered by physician performing the procedure. Provide assistance as possible to physician during procedure as requested and appropriate. Be responsible for the complete and accurate labeling and disposition of specimens. Anticipate the needs of the physician and provide additional supplies and equipment as needed. Assist with the application of dressings. Assist with the transfer of the patient from the table to the wheelchair when procedure is complete and patient is ready for discharge. Report to the appropriate personnel any equipment failures, breaks in technique, incidents or other unusual occurrences. At the end of daily schedule, perform terminal cleaning activities.
