Collection Officer Job Opening in Warwick, Rhode island - ***RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.***
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to establish and maintain communication with borrowers in order to facilitate collecting payments and organizing information pertaining to the delinquent accounts.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Establish contact with customers who are more than 15 days delinquent on their payments to ascertain customer status and reason for delinquency. Contacts may be through telephone calls, e-mails, letters or sending to the property inspection company. When applicable, work with the customer to identify an appropriate payment plan, set up the plan and document the new payment schedule.
2. Prepare files for demand letters.
3. Inquire on delinquent property taxes. Contact municipalities to obtain accurate tax info. Prepare file to review with upper management and post tax foreclosure to shared calendar.
4. Answer incoming calls from switchboard to "common" line in collection department. These calls can consist of anything from customer requesting account info, payment set-up or returning a call from another collector or department.
5. Performs miscellaneous additional duties as assigned.
Education Required
This position requires a associates degree in business, math, finance, accounting or other area of study which has led to the development of analytical, critical thinking and problem solving abilities in combination with effective interpersonal relationship skills; or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Skill Required
This position requires an in depth knowledge of government collections regulations, policies and procedures such as may be gained through a minimum of one year of home mortgage collections experience sufficient to be able to perform the full range of standard assignments and resolve recurring problems.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
Ability to communicate effectively with difficult customers required.
Communications require considerable persistence and firmness while maintaining professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
The employee must possess the ability to exercise judgment in recognizing differences among work situations and in selecting and applying numerous related guidelines, policies and procedures to assignments, making minor deviations to specific cases and determining a sound course of action from among several alternatives.
