General Ledger Specialist (accounting) Job Opening in Tallahassee, Florida - Now seeking full-time general ledger specialist. The ideal candidate will serve as an Finance & Accounting (F&A) contact to all Florida Bar departments for all interaction concerning general ledger/reporting and bill paying, and assists in the daily functioning of the Bar's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Responsible for various reconciliations and cost allocation calculations and journal entries. This person will have frequent telephone contact with members as well as Florida Bar employees from other departments. May require ability to work extended hours at certain times of the year due to high volume of activity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in the support of all TFB departments and programs for purposes of budget development and monitoring, policies interpretation and compliance for accounting related activities.
Assist in the maintenance of all accounts payable, expense and Cash Receipts and Registration files in accordance with records retention requirements. Oversees the processing of member checks returned as Insufficient Funds and seeks replacement payment. Also processes all voided checks and performs daily remote deposit of cash receipts.
Oversees creating new vendors in Great Plains accounting software.
Assist in preparing monthly administrative allocation calculations and assists with other allocation journal entries and calculations. Assists with TFB E-commerce function. This includes contacting members to resolve problems, reconciling the daily credit card transactions and processing refunds, as needed.
Reconcile employee credit cards to employee expense reports and other Bar wide billing statements. Reconcile fee balancing, volunteer contributions and process for payment.
Performs other projects as needed including assisting with accounts payable processing.
Responds to departmental inquiries as to The Florida Bar's policies, accounting treatment or other reporting issues.
Performs quality reviews of transactions to assist in ensuring that policies and procedures have been followed and makes recommendations for improvements.
Assist the General Accounting Manager to reconcile general ledger accounts. Assists with update of F&A procedures manual as necessary.
Required Minimum Education & Professional Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree (proof required at interview) in accounting, finance, business or related area.
Three (3) years of responsible accounting, fiscal or budgeting experience.
Progressively responsible related experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of: Bookkeeping and accounting and auditing practices and procedures; Fiscal internal controls; Budgeting procedures; Basic math; Professional office procedures and practice; Professional telephone etiquette; Database input, computer software, and the internet.
Skilled in: MS Word; MS Excel; Computer functions; Database functions.
Ability to: Communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner. Including proper grammar, spelling and word choice; Work independently in analyzing data and/or procedures to recommend action to management; Compile and maintain fiscal reports and records Audit fiscal data for accuracy and completeness; Think logically and be able to effectively solve problems; Understand deadlines and how to prioritize multiple assignments; Use discretion and independent judgment; Operate well under pressure and in a team atmosphere and remain open to new ideas; Consistently demonstrate exceptional service to other departments and members; Follow and interpret written and oral instructions and policies; Establish and maintain effective working relationships; Tactfully manage difficult situations.
