Staff Accountant Job Opening in Madison, Wisconsin - Position Description:
Under the direction of the Controller, oversees and performs functions related to maximizing the property?s cash flow earnings through aggressive credit and collections practices. The incumbent performs financial, operational and technical analysis and works closely with the Controller to oversee the Accounts Receivable function for the hotel.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Consistently deliver positive, courteous and professional guest service in all interactions with guests, vendors and fellow employees
Manage hotel?s credit and collection function
Assist with billing and customer service functions
Reference and approve all credit applications as to minimize collection risk
Efficiently manage accounts receivable in order to maximize cash flow
Enforce sound credit policies and procedures and monitor adherence
Utilize available resources to increase accounts receivable turnover, collection period, and minimize accounts receivable balance through: aggressive advance deposit policies, timely and accurate initial billings, as well as 10-20 day follow up calls
Hold monthly credit meetings
Increase communication with all involved parties in the credit process (Sales, Catering, and Front Desk)
Familiarization with state tax laws and tax exempt status reporting
Ensure daily posting of Accounts Receivable payments received from the lock box and maintain an up to date file for payment batches
Review and examine check out with balance accounts daily to ensure and enforce hotel?s credit policy
Assist in the completion of the daily balancing to include Cash, Revenue, Accounts Receivable, and Inventory
Prepares daily the hotel sales and statistical reporting for Management
Participate in the month inventory counts and corresponding cash preparation and balancing
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of related accounting experience, with hospitality experience preferred.
Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting preferred
Knowledge of accounting operations including A/R, A/P, general cash management and handling procedures
Understanding of GAAP accounting principles and advanced experience in Credit and deposit policies and procedures preferred
Customer service skills and ability to address concerns in a friendly and positive manner
Ability to navigate and accurately use moderately complex computer software
