Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital, an affiliate of National Surgical Healthcare, is seeking a Business Office Manager for our facility located in Lafayette, Louisiana. Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Accounts and Collection Services department.
The Business Office Manager handles all affairs of patients relating to hospital billing from pre-admission to discharge and also monitors accounts collections, patient complaints and problems related to billing and collections.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for overall supervision of tasks and workflow in the Patient Accounts and Collection Services Department. Communicates collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer to resolve issues and develop systems to facilitate the overall functions of the department.
Demonstrates critical-thinking skills, ability to organize and delegate and to respond to urgent or emergent situations. Demonstrates decision-making skills based on accurate information and/or analysis of data.
Responsible for the maintenance of an effective and efficient system in related processes for the billing of the patient services, collection of patient accounts and recording of funds presented as payments on patient accounts. Including the following responsibilities: patient accounting responsibilities, including the proper recording of patient accounts and appropriate allowances, including bad debt write offs; managed care payor negotiations, including participation in decision making responsibility for contracting with all PPO and direct contract payors; reviewing of third party reimbursement activities, including ensuring the accuracy of Medicare, Medicaid, and Champus actions; prepares monthly and periodic reports relative to aged account listings, payor issues, and other areas of concern with recommendations.
Participates in the development, interpretation, execution, and enforcement of the policies and procedures of the hospital Patient Accounts and Collection Services Department.
Directs the functions of the department in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards: reviews department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually, and participates in making recommended changes.
Maintains and monitors requirements of State Health Department, Medicare regulations, The Joint Commission, HIPAA and applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.
Demonstrates an awareness and relevance of research in patient accounting and collecting. Evaluates practices to identify areas for improvement.
Education & experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of five (5) years experience in Medical Billing, Coding and Collection; Supervisory experience required.
