POSITION DESCRIPTION:
DC Central Kitchen?s Staff Accountant will report to the Controller and assist with accounting operations of the organization, applying analytical work and thorough review of financial records. The successful candidate will collect pertinent information for third party audits, oversee financial reporting and operations and will be the first point of contact for accounting issues. S/he will also possess a strong work ethic, excellent attention to details, strong clerical skills, well-organized, excellent communication skills, the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people and experience working with Microsoft office suite (particularly Microsoft Excel).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll
Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
Working closely with HR, ensure all employee timesheets are submitted accurately and approved by appropriate supervisor.
Process manual checks as needed.
Ensure that the funding for FSA, 401K and Smart benefits are submitted timely and accurately and that those accounts are reconciled monthly.
Accounts Receivable
Prepare invoices, process payments, and assist with collections.
Prepare statements as needed for customers and staff.
Accounts Payable
Enter invoices into and route to appropriate supervisors.
Process employee reimbursements and other manual checks as necessary.
Collect and review statements from vendors on no less than monthly basis. Investigate discrepancies and collect any missing invoices/credit memos.
Maintain petty cash per company policies and guidelines.
General Accounting
Create appropriate detailed general journal entries.
Using remote deposit software, process all bank deposits and record appropriately in accounting system.
Distribute credit card bill to staff and collect all receipts for credit card transactions.
Assist with bank and other general ledger account reconciliations.
Reconcile donation accounts with Development staff.
Maintain filing system for accounting department.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s Degree (B.A.) in Business Administration or Accounting and 2-3 years? experience as a bookkeeper or accountant
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and vendors
Excellent problem-solving skills
Experience or knowledge of Intacct accounting system, , and Paycom
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Comfortable with moderate physical activity is required
Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Ability to work in an environment where exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and a variety of odors is common
