JOB SUMMARY
Sales Associates and Keyholders are the primary contact between PET VALU and its customers. They are responsible to follow company policies and procedures to provide satisfactory customer service, build sales and control costs.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Store Manager
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Service customer needs and use sales techniques to provide customer satisfaction.
2. Process customer purchases on a computerized cash register. (Point of Sale System.)
3. Accurately record transactions and make change. Follow cash handling procedures.
4. Acquire and maintain the job knowledge necessary to answer customer questions about products and to assist customers in the selection of products.
5. Assisting in unloading delivery vehicles of cases and bags of pet food and putting these items into stock (items up to 55 pounds).
6. Placing small items (under 10 pounds) including pet supplies, etc. into stock in the sales area of the store.
7. Facing shelves, re-allocating shelf space as directed, straightening bags.
8. Sweeping, dusting and other general store maintenance functions.
9. Performing carry out service for customers (items up to 55 pounds).
10. Performing any additional tasks as assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
Additional Responsibilities For
Keyholder and Full Time Sales Associate
11. Completing daily and weekly computer processes and paperwork.
12. Preparing and making bank deposits.
13. Completing opening and/or closing procedures.
14. Assist with training employees.
15. Ensuring assigned tasks are completed (in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Manager).

QUALIFICATIONS
Age: A. Part time Sales Associate - At least 17 years of age.
B. Full Time and Keyholders - At least 18 years of age.
Work Experience: Retail experience preferred.
Transfers: Part-Time/ Full-Time Sales Associates and Keyholders can be transferred to, or asked to work at other PET VALU locations. The other location may require them to make a longer drive by car taking into account normal driving patterns.
Physical Requirements: A. Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 55 pounds.
B. Ability to stand and/or walk 100 percent of a shift.
C. Must have manual dexterity for correct use of a computer keyboard.
D. Must be able to talk and hear.
E. Close vision is necessary.
Language Skills: A. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short
correspondence, and memos.
B. Ability to write simple correspondence.
C. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: A. Basic Skills
B. Ability to add, multiply, subtract and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
C. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: A. Intermediate Skills
B. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
C. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
