Job Title: Accountant Reports To: President
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supporting the accounting and recordkeeping needs for the Company. Primary duties include general accounting tasks, accounts payable, payroll processing, maintaining the Company?s cash flow model and other special projects. Some administrative duties include business and employee insurance management, interfacing with 401k plan administrators and some basic HR tasks may be required. The position also processes and compiles financial information for various specialized management reports and maintains the reporting mechanisms needed for each.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)
Enter accounts payable and general ledger data into the accounting software system.
Prepare monthly journal entries.
Analyze general ledger accounts.
Monthly and year-end accounting closings.
Audit cash and credit card deposits, including reconciling statements.
Participation in management meetings.
Alert management/owners of any accounting errors or potential issues..
Process accounts payable vendor invoices, as well as employee expense reimbursements for payment. Assist department heads coding account numbers and prepare checks on a weekly basis.
Maintain and document all accounts payable vendor files in a confidential and timely manner.
Prepare accounts payable related journal entries.
Analyze accounts payable related general ledger accounts.
Effectively manage the Accounting Assistant.
Interfacing with CPA firm.
Process bi-weekly payroll runs and maintain all necessary payroll records in a confidential manner.
Process changes to employee files, including changes in insurance coverage, address, salary amount and withholding amounts.
Maintain vacation, holiday and sick leave reports.
As requested, prepare bank reconciliations and subsidiary records on a monthly basis.
Coordinate steps to maintain and update the Company?s cash flow.
Assist in using the cash flow model to forecast available cash on hand for future fiscal years of the Company.
Interfacing with 401k plan administrators.
Process timekeeping input to payroll and minor invoice processing.
As requested, compile monthly balance sheet, income statement and ratio analysis financial information for the Company.
Other projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the job. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of an Associate degree in accounting. 5+ years related experience, preferably in a retail accounting role. Supervisory experience required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Work consists of moderately complicated procedures and tasks that require independent judgments such as setting priorities, evaluating results, coordinating with others, etc. Errors may result in confusion or financial loss. Occasionally required to work or attend meetings beyond the normal workday. This position requires an excellent working knowledge of accounting concepts and Quickbooks accounting software. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to keep confidential and sensitive information about the company, its customers, products, financial information, coworkers, etc. is essential.
PERSONAL TRAITS: Courtesy and tact necessary to effectively work with others in everyday working relationships with vendors, employees, and management. Person must be well organized, very thorough, detail oriented, open to change, flexible, able to grasp concepts quickly, honest, and possess good communication skills. Tied to this, the person should be a self-starter and comfortable with technology.

Most of the workday is spent sitting and walking. Some lifting/lowering of up to 30 pounds. Less frequent need to stand, bend or crouch. Heavy use of computer and keyboard, resulting in repetitive motions with hands, arms and wrists. Risk from these motions can be minimized by practicing proper posture and using ergonomically correct positioning of hands, wrists and arms.
