Accounting Specialist Job Opening in Topeka, Kansas - We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to help employers with reporting payroll contributions to KPERS. This is a full time position with competitive benefits and a starting salary of $32,170 commensurate with experience and qualifications. The deadline for application is Monday, August 21, 2017.

Duties of the Position
The Accounting Specialist assists designated agents from the System?s affiliated employers with remitting contributions and reporting salary information to KPERS. Responsible for answering phone calls on the Fiscal Services 1-800 number. Requires an in-depth knowledge of KPERS Integrated Technology System (KITS), KPERS statutes, rules, policies and procedures. Education Required
Associates degree or vocational certification in accounting. Experience can be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
Experience Required
Two years of experience in accounting, accounts payable or payroll. Experience interacting with clients, customers, or the public in a social service or problem resolution setting is preferred. Education can be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
Experience working with computer applications.
Ability to compare figures accurately and reconcile discrepancies in financial records.
Ability to explain complex information to other in an understandable manner.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of people.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
