Quality Manager Job Opening in Bay City, Oregon - The Quality Manager is responsible for assuring that the Tillamook Country Smoker facilities and co- packers operate under acceptable and adequate sanitary conditions and in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, standards, codes, and company policies. The individual in this position will work with other management to audit / inspect, identify nonconformance?s and provide recommendations regarding necessary improvements to ensure that regulatory compliance and food safety goals are achieved and maintained. This position reports to the Sr Director of Quality.
Essential Functions:
Planning, investigating, developing and implementing techniques, processes and procedures for controlling and maintaining a high level of product quality, employee quality and food safety training , quality and food safety records maintenance. Training, auditing and establishing standards and responsibilities for plant Quality Assurance/ Control Technicians and plant personnel with quality assurance/ quality control duties to ensure compliance with facility, company and 3rd party quality requirements. Updating and maintaining documents required for compliance and certification to include SQF development and implementation, HACCP plans, MSDS, allergen and review of labels and nutrition statements. Responsible to qualify for and maintain plant certification and audit success for HACCP, and SQF.
Conduct effective, risk-based internal audits and inspections of manufacturing, procedures, preventative maintenance, sanitation, allergen control, pest control and GMP activities to ensure food safety and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, company policies / procedures and customer expectations.
Conduct and implement all components of the auditing process including but not limited to scheduling, planning, travel arrangements, execution, audit report writing and follow-up. Complete all audits and submit accurate written reports to both plant and senior management. Provide recommendations and guidance to plant personnel regarding necessary improvements, best practices, and or corrective actions for relevant audit nonconformities.
Ability to apply working knowledge of state and federal food safety laws including applicable parts of the Code of Federal Regulations, FDA Food Code and Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations.
Knowledge and understanding of external auditing schemes such as GFSI - SQF requirements including various customer / 3rd party audit expectations.
Knowledge of both food and environmental microbiology as well as preventative measures to include sanitation controls and sanitary design. Provide an oversight for environmental pathogen control through auditing sanitation processes. Participate in microbiological investigations as it pertains to sanitary systems in all facilities.
Assist plant operations with creating, updating and maintaining Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) including the selection and use of cleaning chemicals / sanitizers and cleaning equipment.
Participate in the investigation of supplier / customer nonconformance?s including root cause analysis, corrective actions, follow-ups and site visits.
Conduct training within the organization to promote sanitation / hygiene / GMP compliance and food safety awareness.
Perform additional duties or assignments as needed.
Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in related field preferred.
Minimum of five years managerial experience preferred.
Minimum of 5 years experience in food plant operations, sanitation, pest control or food safety.
Experience with FDA and or USDA inspected manufacturing facilities.
Strong communication and organizational skills (both oral and written).
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft 0ffice (Word/Excel) and Lotus Notes.
Ability to work and maneuver within a manufacturing environment without restrictions.
Preferred:
Minimum two years auditing / regulatory experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Professional development - certification or clear progress towards certification such as ASQ, HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner / Lead Auditor credential.
