Position Summary:
The Medical Chart Auditor/Billing Office Supervisor is responsible for reviewing and auditing to ensure compliance and accuracy. This position will also serve as a leader in the Billing Office and be the first point of contact for staff. Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day department operations, performance management, workflow, and staffing. To be successful in this position the individual must be knowledgeable on department and company policies related to the Business Office. Knowledge of best practices for chart documentation compliance and auditing required. Effective communication, both written and oral, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and making decisions using sound judgement are essential to this role.
Essential Functions:

Ensures coding and documentation are in compliance with the national guidelines from CMS and Sound Family Medicine?s standards and protocols.
Performs chart audits and reviews; Reviews charges and documentation for compliance meeting national requirements and Sound Family Medicine protocols; Initiates correction as needed.
Serves as a subject matter expert to staff, including providers, billing staff, payment posters and collectors.
Maintains current knowledge on coding compliance and provides suggestions to the Business Office Manager regarding improvements to protocols and processes; Stays current on best practices and changes related to coding and chart auditing compliance.
Acts as a primary contact for the Billing Office team and serves as resource for the staff.
Responsible for maintaining efficient workflow processes throughout the department; Identifies staffing needs and works with the Business Office Manager to properly staff the department; Tracks productivity and accuracy of all business office staff with use excel reports and best practice knowledge. Responsible for reviewing timecards and time off requests from the staff.
Oversees performance and communicates with all billing staff frequently regarding expectations and professional development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the performance of all employees in the department. This position will also have the authority to make staffing decisions for the department in conjunction with the Business Office Manager.
Work Environment:
This position will work in a typical office environment with a moderate noise level. This role will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:

Minimal local travel may be required for this position.
Education and Experience:
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required
Bachelor?s Degree in Healthcare Management or related field: Preferred
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification: Required or must obtain within 6 months of employment
Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) Certification: Required or must obtain within 6 months of employment
Experience:
2+ years? experience auditioning medical charts and coding: Required
2+ years? supervisory experience: Required
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
