Computational cardiovascular medical imaging Job Opening in Cleveland, Ohio - We are seeking postdoctoral imaging researchers to develop new translational, computational applications in cardiovascular imaging. Cutting-edge clinical image acquisition systems include microscopic imaging of the blood vessel wall with intravascular OCT, quantitative CT imaging using an advanced spectral detector CT scanner, and a new inexpensive method for imaging coronary calcium suitable for screening millions of patients. We are creating computational image analysis applications that can be translated to clinical solutions.
Successful applicants will join our team of biomedical engineers, computer scientists, cardiologists, and industrial researchers. As an example, we are using intravascular optical coherence tomography (IVOCT) to image coronary arteries. OCT provides microscopic imaging of the blood vessel wall enabling unique assessment of plaque vulnerability and thin tissue coverage of stents. Another project is advancing CT imaging to include reliable perfusion measurements of myocardial tissue using the latest Philips Healthcare, spectral detector CT imaging system. This advancement will allow CT to become the only imaging modality providing a ?one stop shop? for diagnosis including cardiac function, vascular anatomy, and tissue perfusion. We are creating image analysis applications that can be translated to clinical solutions. Our group has a broad base of funding from NIH, the Philips Healthcare Global Advanced Imaging Innovation Center at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio Third Frontier, and the Cardiovascular Imaging Core Lab.
The biomedical imaging community at CWRU is outstanding. There are currently 29 tenured and tenure track faculty members in biomedical imaging and plans for growth. Facilities are superb. The educational program is well established and post docs have an opportunity to take classes and participate in seminars such as CWRU?s Imaging Hour, aka, ?The Best Hour of the Week.?
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in engineering, computer science, medical physics or related field and knowledge of medical imaging and image analysis including machine learning. The emphasis is creation of new image analysis methods using machine learning, registration, spatially regularized parameter estimation, etc. Specific knowledge of IVOCT, CT, perfusion, and/or cardiac imaging is a plus but not required. A unique aspect of our work will be accurate validation using large animal models of coronary artery disease, providing ample opportunity for publications. We want ambitious candidates who will communicate well with our diverse, dynamic group; aggressively pursue research; and publish.
