Staff Accountant Job Opening in Baltimore, Maryland - Temescal Wellness invests in, launches and manages state-legal cannabis companies. Founded in 2015, Temescal operates two dispensaries and an all-organic, facility in New Hampshire; is building-out three dispensaries and an all-organic, facility, in Massachusetts; is building-out a dispensary and a facility in Maryland; holds active ownership positions in two, revenue-generating cannabis product companies; and is evaluating other opportunities nationwide to acquire and start new businesses. Temescal Wellness will have multiple product brands and multiple cultivation, manufacturing and retail locations nationwide.
Temescal Wellness currently has an opening for an Accountant who will report to the Controller.
Accountant Duties and Responsibilities
Collect cost information and maintain an expenses database
Construct data accumulation systems
Determine fixed costs (e.g. salaries, rent and insurance)
Plan and record variable costs
Review costs for accuracy
Prepare budgeting reports (for the company and for each department)
Review of monthly variances
Analyze and report profit margins
Prepare (weekly and monthly) cost and cash flow forecasts
Assisting in month-end and year-end closing
Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions
Ensure that accounts payable are paid accurately and on time
Match Supplier invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents
Research supplier requests for payment
Post and reconcile petty cash and debit cards
Ensure that account reconciliations are completed
Monitor cash balances
Journalize invoices issued to customers
Journalize cash receipts and record associated revenue
Process time card reports
Ensure supervisory approval of time cards
Process employee payrolls and expenses
Monitor PTO balances
Monitor recurring journal entries
Calculate and enter adjusting journal entries
Record accruals
Calculate and record depreciation
Prepare inventory model compare to physical count and journalize
Audit physical inventory counts
Provide detailed reconciliation and analysis of accounts
Create financial statements
Report on product costs and variance to target costs
Report on margins by product and strain
Requirements
Two years of experience as a Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar role
Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with accounting software, QuickBooks preferred
Computer literacy, MS suite in particular
Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
Strong time management skills
Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant study

Location & Travel . The candidate will be located near Baltimore, MD and will travel approximately 5% of the time.
