PURPOSE
Organize and coordinate initiatives related to the NCQC Patient Safety Organization (NCQC PSO). Support PSO related activities including member interfaces, education and training, database management, data analysis, client support, communication, and patient safety reports. Function as an active member of the NC Quality Center and NC Hospital Association in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the organization in transforming the NC healthcare system.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PSO Operations
Ensure Patient Safety Work Product is protected, managed confidentially, and handled appropriately.
Contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of NCQC PSO policies, procedures, databases, reports, and contracts.
Assist in the development of presentations, Safe Tables, project intervention strategies and materials, and communication strategies to promote the activities of the NCQC PSO.
Assist in the development, review, and tracking of PSO initiatives, feedback materials, and educational offerings to ensure task completion and appropriate project management.
Coordinate collaboratives and other types of projects, as needed
Supports the NCQC PSO Advisory Council activities.
Perform other tasks and duties as may be identified by the Director of the NCQC PSO and Executive Director of the NCQC.
Provide education and training materials for new PSO members on PSES operational infrastructure development.
Provide technical assistance to key individuals as requested.
Database Management and Analysis
Coordinate review of patient safety event information
Maintain primary responsibility for analyzing reported information
Develop and manage aggregate reports
Identify trends for member feedback
Present learnings to members via newsletter, Safe Tables and PSO Advisory Council
Provide feedback to members and assist them in identifying and addressing areas of improvement, based on evidenced best practices
Safety Culture Analysis and Education
Consult with hospitals on safety culture surveys and analysis
Provide educational programming, supporting elements of safety culture, i.e. teamwork, communication, justice and accountability, high reliability, workforce safety
Assist PSO members seeking to provide a comprehensive approach to integrating their patient safety & safety culture efforts.
Develop and lead educational sessions, as needed
Newsletter Management and Coordination
Coordinate the NCQC PSO newsletter
Identify safety topics from reporting
Provide feedback on events
Develop articles on PSO engagement

INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
Work principally with the NC Quality Center team to meet the objectives established by NCHA and appropriate councils. Assist the team with the development of policies, procedures, and operational efficiencies.
Work primarily with the Director the NCQC PSO on identification of safety topics emerging from event reviews, promoting membership engagement and enhancing value in PSO offerings and membership and infusing safety culture analysis to provide a multi-dimensional approach to patient safety improvements.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
Maintain good working relationships with hospitals, health care organizations, other state hospital associations, quality improvement organizations, and governmental agencies and other Center partners and stakeholders
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor?s degree in clinical practice or related field.
Master?s degree in a related healthcare field preferred. (Alternatively, Bachelor?s degree from an accredited school of professional nursing or health-care related field.)
Certification in TeamSTEPPS, Lean, or Six Sigma preferred.
Minimum five (5) years clinical experience that includes exposure to hospital processes and hospital environment.
Experience in event investigation, causal analysis and human factor engineering, quality/performance improvement, patient safety, and project management.
Proficient in patient safety event analysis, quality and performance improvement tools, and database management.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the complexity of hospital processes and hospital environment.
Demonstrated skills in analytics, problem solving, project management, customer service, teamwork, oral and written communication, change management, leadership, and collaboration.
Ability to evaluate systems and processes and work successfully with various types and sizes of organizations.
Creative, well spoken, and articulate in order to effectively communicate and build relationships with clients and give presentations as needed.
Advanced computer skills with experience in word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, project management software, data analytics, file formats, and database software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work performed mostly in an office environment.
Use a computer throughout the workday.
May require occasional travel.
