Behavioral Health Clinician/Substance Abuse Counselor Job Opening in Olathe, Kansas - POSITION SUMMARY
Health Partnership Clinic follows an Integrated Healthcare Model resembling the Cherokee Integrated Healthcare Systems model to help meet the needs of primary care patients who may suffer from medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc.) and co-occurring mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, addiction, etc.).
The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) /Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) treats behavioral health conditions within the primary care setting as a full member of the health care team. The BHC will help deliver a coordinated, multi-disciplinary treatment approach that is aimed at identifying and treating behavioral health issues. The BHC/SAC provides mental health consultation, assessment, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and brief skills based treatment. The BHC/SAC also focuses on identifying and preventing negative health outcomes due to, or exacerbated by, behavioral health concerns.
This position is based in Olathe, KS; however, will also regularly travel to Paola, KS and Ottawa, KS.
Qualifications
Knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence based treatments for medical, mental health, and substance use conditions.
Knowledge and understanding of
Working knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria.
Current CAC, LAC, or LDCAC (delete).
Implement evidence based brief interventions.
Ability to make quick and accurate assessments of behavioral health conditions.
Have solid critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
Be flexible and able to assess and triage on the spot demands of medical staff.
Knowledge regarding trauma informed and culturally sensitive substance abuse and mental health treatment.
Ability to relate well with patients and other health care personnel.
Willingness to educate patients and the community regarding behavioral health maintenance and the role of the health care team.
Ability to provide effective care by way of brief patient contacts, as well as to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
Comfortable with the fast pace of primary care, working with an interdisciplinary team
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected chronic conditions.
Commitment to expanding access to care for the underserved.
Education and Experience:
Doctorate degree in Psychology (Psy. D./Ph. D.) from an APA accredited program
Master?s degree in Social Work from an accredited CSWE program
Must have an unrestricted Kansas License Psychologist (LP) or dually licensed Kansas LSCSW with LAC
A minimum of three years? experience in and direct clinical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of primary care patients? behavioral health and co existing medical illness including patients with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.
Assist the primary care team in developing treatment brief interventions for psychological disorders; education regarding prevention of medical illness, promotion of healthy life style changes, disease management techniques, patient education to improve self-management of chronic diseases.
Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
Assist in the detection of ?at risk? patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for problems and/or disorders.
Teach patients, families, and staff care, prevention, and treatment enhancement techniques.
Monitor the site?s behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement.
Provide opioid reduction training to students and patients.
Provide integrated substance abuse services including screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment for those who either currently are, or are at risk of, abusing or misusing substances (SBIRT).
