Part-time Assistant Bookkeeper Job Opening in Shipman, Virginia - Position Summary
Ligmincha International is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve the Bon tradition, the pre-Buddhist indigenous tradition of Tibet. Located in Nelson County, Ligmincha International is headquartered at its Serenity Ridge Retreat Center, which hosts retreats year-round.
Ligmincha seeks an Assistant Bookkeeper to record and reconcile accounting data in Quickbooks, manage transaction processing, and assist with the smooth operation of Ligmincha?s financial systems for Ligmincha International, Serenity Ridge Retreat Center and Ligmincha?s Bookstore & Tibet Shop.
This is a part-time (16 hours), non-management position that reports to the Executive Director. The Bookkeeper works closely with our treasurer, retreat center, bookstore and other staff, and maintains positive external relationships with outside vendors and service providers. The position is based at Serenity Ridge Retreat Center in Shipman, Virginia. There is some flexibility in scheduling work days. Compensation is competitive
Duties & Responsibilities
Performs data entry into Quickbooks for deposits, bills, and prints checks for:
Ligmincha International
Ligmincha International?s Tibet Shop
Serenity Ridge Retreat Center
Process Accounts Payable, including auditing all incoming bills, vendor payments, auditing all bills for correct and appropriate charges, reconcile monthly vendor statements, code and class all expenses according to chart of accounts, obtaining approvals on all bills.
Process Accounts Receivable, maintaining customer correspondence regarding invoicing and payment issues, and working with other staff to maintain good customer relations.
Resolves collections when necessary.
Process all incoming checks, credit cards, and electronic payments and credits and record in appropriate log.
Prepare and disburse payments to vendors.
Document transactions involving credit card, cash and check receipts.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and bank reconciliations as needed.
Enter data from registration and donor software and reconcile to accounting system.
Provide bookkeeper with information to pay monthly retail sales tax for shop.
Maintain clear, accurate, organized records.
Answer questions from offsite bookkeeper as needed.
Qualifications
Good knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices; knowledge of accounting terminology; knowledge of financial record keeping and reporting.
Experience processing A/R, and A/P.
Ability to analyze financial transactions and make original or adjusting entries; ability to read and comprehend financial transactions; ability to trace transactions through financial records.
Detail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solving.
Trustworthy, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with staff and vendors, both oral and written.
Possess a high comfort level with computer technology, including Quickbooks, Microsoft Office suite and Google programs (Gmail, Google Docs and calendars) and a willingness to learn new systems.
Experience with nonprofit organizations or churches a plus.
Education and/or Experience
Associate of Arts Degree (A.A.) in Business Administration AND at least two years of para-professional accounting or auditing experience. OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required experience
Experience working with Quickbooks for a minimum of 2 years.
