Senior Systems Engineer Job Opening in Phoenix, Arizona - Job description
This role will be a significant contributor and technical decision maker developing AVIAGE SYSTEMS next generation avionics and digital products for part-25 commercial aircraft. This newly created position on the Advanced Technology team will work in a small group to understand the needs of the customer and translate them into a set of product requirements.
You will interact with product managers, R&D focals and engineering teams to generate these systems concepts and requirements. You will need to coordinate with other systems teams for the appropriate impact on these systems. You may also interact with the certification authorities on the aircraft-level requirements and ensure proper applicability and certification of the design.
You will assist the Advanced Technology team in making the best decisions regarding avionics systems design, including support of current industry standards and future capabilities.
Essential
The engineer will support the development of onboard information management systems and data connectivity solutions. The ability to leverage a wide-breath of experience and understand how to harness technologies such as the cloud, big data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and data management into their design thought process is preferred.
The responsibilities include requirements definition, research of adjacent industry technologies and presenting concepts for approval by company leaders.
The engineer will be expected to prototype their design for validation of their initial concepts that help support and grow the AVIAGE business strategy.
Must exhibit a high level of self-direction with critical emphasis on Communication, Coordination and Planning
Provide support in defining the state of the art in own technical specialty in order to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers in line with business needs
Implement plans to meet technical requirements, scheduling, and contract commitments of assigned work areas
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Recommend approaches to meet technical and program requirements
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
At least 15 years of experience working directly with avionics products and systems.
Relevant experience in data management products and systems.
Specific experience of working with one or more of the following standards; ARP4754, DO297, DO254, DO178, DO160, DO-324, ARINC 424, ARINC 429, ARINC 615, ARINC 653, ARINC 661, ARINC 664, ARINC 665, ARINC 759, ARINC 763-3, and ARINC 821.
Specific experience of working within one of the following development lifecycle phases; advanced design and technology development, Requirements Capture & Definition, System Integration.
Strong oral and written communication skills & strong interpersonal skills
Must be able to perform well in an internationally distributed engineering organization
Ability to understand and implement requirements from customer, company and industry standards
Desired Characteristics
Master's degree in Engineering
Ability to operate within a project based environment, defining, reporting against and modifying project plans to achieve success.
Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both internal and external customers
Specific experience of developing or implementing technology roadmaps.
Specific experience of working with one or more of the following Aircraft Systems; Integrated Modular Avionics, Information Management Systems, Flight Management System, Onboard Maintenance System, Flight Recording System.
At least 10 additional years of experience working with network architectures, computing platforms and Linux software development
Ability to support compliance to the applicable aviation regulations.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States full-time
Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including for example, verification of your past employment, criminal history, and educational background
