Accounting Manager Job Opening in Potomac, Maryland - Beth Sholom Congregation and Talmud Torah in Potomac, MD ( ) is a vibrant modern orthodox Jewish community. We welcome members across the spectrum of observance and place on their individual spiritual journey.
We are looking for a part-time Accounting Manager to join our staff.
The Accounting Manager?s Role:
Beth Sholom?s Accounting Manager is responsible for full-cycle accounting and bookkeeping for the Congregation. In addition to performing day-to-day financial tasks in our $2.5 million 501(c)3 environment, this individual maintains accounting controls, enforces financial policies, prepares regular and ad hoc reports, and recommends financial actions.
In this key operational role, the Accounting Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and administrative staff on a day-to-day basis, act as a resource for the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and interface with members, volunteers, and customers on various financial issues. There is one direct report for this role.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Full Cycle Accounting for Operating and Restricted Funds (including cash management, journal entries, confirmation of allocations, bank reconciliations, legal and tax filings, Accounts Payable & Receivable, month end/year end, maintains financial files and records, bank liaison, etc.)
Financial Management (provides financial analysis and forecasting, ensures adherence to internal controls, recommends policies and procedures)
Budget (participates in annual budget preparation process, prepares regular budget updates, contributes to grant and funding budgets, works with Executive Director and lay leaders to manage budget through the fiscal year)
Payroll (bi-weekly payroll for congregation staff, catering staff, Early Childhood Centre staff, including ensuring proper cost allocations)
Financial Reporting (prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, other financial reports for regular reporting schedule and to address ad hoc needs and inquiries).
Additional Responsibilities and Projects
Experience, Skills and Attributes:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting is required. CPA designation or in process is an asset.
5 ? 7 years of experience in a full-cycle accounting role, preferably in a non-profit, ideally in a 501(c)3 organization with a budget of over $1.5M.
Full knowledge of current and proposed accounting standards, and IRS requirements.
Advanced knowledge of both Excel and Quickbooks; able to work with member and/or donor databases.
A doer and a thinker, you have demonstrated experience of getting the detailed work done accurately and in a timely manner, but have also successfully helped to enhance and build the financial function.
Demonstrated experience working with internal and external clients and stakeholders, including ability to negotiate, influence, and work collaboratively.
