NDBF is responsible for regulating state chartered financial institutions and securities offered or sold in the State of Nebraska, or to Nebraska residents. This at-will position will be filled at the Examiner Trainee level unless the chosen candidate has prior regulatory examination experience with the OCC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, and/or another state or federal depository regulatory agency. The Bank Examiner position will be headquartered in Lincoln. Base pay for an Examiner Trainee is $43,688 annually. Employees hired at the Examiner Trainee level are promoted to the next two examiner levels based upon on-the-job experience and the successful completion of a series of five schools. The schools, usually spread out over a three to five-year period, are generally attended in Arlington, VA, and last from one to three weeks. Expenses are paid.
Essential Duties: If filled at the Examiner Trainee level, this position will be heavily involved in learning examination work procedures predominately through on-the-job training. As a member of the examination team, the Examiner Trainee carefully examines bank records to determine the bank's financial condition and compliance with laws and regulations under the supervision of the Supervising Examiner and/or designee. The Examiner Trainee will also read and study various reference materials including the Nebraska Banking statutes, Department Rules and Statements of Policy, FDIC and Federal Reserve Bank regulations and policies, FDIC Manual of Examination, and the Department of Banking Procedures manual. Actively participates in on-the-job training and formal training to acquire basic banking knowledge and bank supervisor skills. Achieves proficiency with Department approved computer applications and programs to accomplish job duties. Develop a basic understanding of designated computer functions and operations. Submit assigned tasks and administrative paperwork in an accurate, neat, legible and timely manner. Complete assigned work with progressively reduced supervision. Attend and successfully complete assigned schools and training seminars. Safeguard equipment, sensitive data and other resources. Performs related work as assigned. Travel is required, including some overnight travel. Examiners generally work a compressed work week of 40 hours ? Monday through Thursday. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, or economics, and a minimum of six semester hours in accounting is required. OTHER: Valid driver's license and evidence of vehicle insurance, or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Must be willing and able to travel overnight (averages five to seven nights a month).
Knowledge and/or experience analyzing data and preparing reports. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to present comments, opinions, conclusions and factual information clearly and concisely utilizing proper grammar and sentence constructions. Good computer skills are necessary, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to meet deadlines; work with limited supervision; be a team player capable of working with fellow examiners in a team setting, examiners of other bank regulatory agencies, and the personnel of bank examined.
