OB/GYN Back Office Medical Assistant Job Opening in Newport Beach, California - At Pacific Women's Healthcare Associates, our practice is dedicated to providing specialized gynecologic and obstetrical care for the "whole person," at all stages of life. We are looking to add an experienced Back Office Medical Assistant to our highly skilled staff.
The Back Office Medical Assistant is responsible for demonstrating exceptional patient care, taking direction from the provider, multitasking, and facilitating open communication with patients and providers. The Back Office Medical Assistant should be organized, efficient, and a friendly representation of the office.
Job Description:
Greets patients and prepares them for physical examination including assessment of general condition, obtaining appropriate information, and takes vital signs
Accurately maintains and reviews patient records and charts including documenting patient exams, inquiries, and test results.
Maintains the functionality of the exam rooms, ensuring the cleanliness of both the exam room(s) and equipment. Stocks exam room(s) with necessary supplies, materials, and equipment.
Aids the physician during the examination, procedures, and treatments of the patients. Administers injections as directed.
Collects and handles lab specimens as directed, according to protocol.
Assists and instructs patients over the phone on treatment and medication related instructions.
Educates the patient and their family on plan of care, and medications.
Send and receive patient medical records, lab reports and hospital notes. Complete patient forms as needed.
Work with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Medical Assistant Minimum of two years back office Medical Assistant experience.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Minimum of two years of OB/GYN experience
Must have experience with EMR (preferably NextGen)
Clear understanding of protocols and procedures in a medical office including health information management, confidentiality, and safety.
Organize and prioritize responsibilities while remaining flexible to changing demands.
Maintain high standards of care, and recognize normal and abnormal signs and symptoms of life threatening emergencies.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in high stress situations
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with patients, families, staff and others.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Must have high level of discretion and judgement.
Ability to work overtime if necessary
Physical Demands :
May require long periods of time sitting, standing, walking, and talking.
Occasionally required to lift 25 pounds.
Work with blood or bloodborne pathogens, will require OSHA in-service training.
Will require viewing computer screen and typing on a keyboard for prolonged periods of time.
