Affirmations, the community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBTQ) people and their allies, seeks a Financial Accountant. General Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Accountant will support financial decision-making information by preparing, collecting, analyzing, investigating, and reporting financial data. Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree required, Master?s degree preferred
Minimum of three (3) years financial accounting experience
Non-profit accounting experience preferred
Superior written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
Ability to develop, analyze and manage budgets
Ability to provide cash flow forecasting
Experience with audit preparation and oversight
Experience with generating and analyzing a variety of financial reports
Available to work evenings and some weekends
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
Ability to perform under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to quickly learn other computer programs

Primary Responsibilities:
Utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles correlating to income and expense recognition principles, maintain corporate income and expense ledgers on an accrual basis.
Perform functional allocations to cost centers.
Maintain profit & loss allocations for funders and customers.
Maintain asset, liability and equity accounts and corresponding back-up documentation.
Maintain not-for profit equity classes based on donor restriction as unrestricted, temporarily restricted or permanently restricted.
Prepares monthly financial statements by entering data; collecting data; analyzing and investigating variances; summarizing data, information, and trends.
Present financial statements on a regular basis to management and governing board, including trends and variances.
Cash flow forecasting.
Prepares monthly and annual statements by assembling data.
Complies with state and federal tax filing requirements by studying regulations; adhering to requirements; advising management on required actions; calculating quarterly estimated tax payments; assembling data for quarterly and annual tax filings.
Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
Provides financial advice by studying operational issues; applying financial principles and practices; developing recommendations.
Prepares special reports by studying variances; preparing budgets; developing forecasts.
Updates job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Responsible for the organization's accounts payable and receivable.
Works with the Executive Director and other senior staff to develop an annual budget
Accomplishes finance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
Participate with governing board related to investment portfolio decision making and maintain accurate general ledger transactions related to investment activity.
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Executive Director
Classification Status: Full-Time, Exempt position.
