Accountant Job Opening in Kalkaska, Michigan - Accountant: American Waste/Northern A-1 Services is a leading provider of disposal, recycling, industrial, and environmental services in Northern Michigan. We are in immediate need of filling a full time accounting position in our Kalkaska (corporate) office.
Job Description:
Posts customer payments: cash, checks, ACH, EFT, & credit card transactions to correct customer accounts numbers timely and accurately
Researches account discrepancies utilizing critical thinking skills
Resolves discrepancies by submitting requests for corrections & following through until the customer account is correct
Interacts with customers to resolve discrepancies on accounts
Understands G/L accounts and journal entries.
Prepares daily check deposits and processes through bank scanner to deposit accounts
Verifies that reports tie back to daily bank deposits.
Reviews accounts with credit balances to determine if account maintenance is needed.
Enters invoices from vendors accurately, matching to purchase order log
Reconciles vendor statements and works with vendors to insure correct balances at month end
Processes credit card payments for balances due & reconciles monthly credit card statements

Job Requirements:
5+ years experience and education in A/R, A/P, and accounting practices required
Attention to detail and thorough
Accuracy and Efficiency is key
Multi-tasker
Willing to learn and take on new responsibility as needed
Proficient data entry skills
Proficient with Excel spreadsheets
General math skills
Analytical and Critical thinking skills
Strong Communication Skills with co-workers and customers
