POSITION OVERVIEW:
The BCBA/Autism Specialist will oversee the daily functioning of the programming provided for students on the autism spectrum within the school district. The BCBA/Autism Specialist will assist in the coordination of instructional and behavioral programs in both general and specialized settings. This includes the observation of students, analyzing data, and modifying curriculum and instructional strategies. The BCBA/Autism Specialist will be a key member of the autism team providing training and monitoring to ensure student success. This includes collaboration with IEP teams to develop goals and objectives, interpret assessment data, and guide teams through the evaluation process.
The BCBA/Autism Specialist will conduct professional development for teachers of students with autism spectrum disorders throughout the school year. This also includes training for teacher assistants who work in classrooms with students with autism.
During the extended school year program, the BCBA/Autism Specialist will ensure that services continue throughout the summer months by collaborating with the teachers to whom the students are assigned during the ESY (extended school year) program.
TARGET POPULATION:
Students ages 3 ? 21 who are enrolled in Special Education Programs in both public and non-public schools.
LOCATION:
Services will be provided primarily at one elementary school site. However, some hours may be required at various public elementary, middle, and high schools in the area and in non-public schools or in preschool centers within the Providence area.
SCHEDULE:
The BCBA/Autism Specialist will be available throughout the traditional school day and year, typically 6-8 hours per day, 3 days per week (roughly 18-24 hours) Professional development sessions will occur after the close of the school day and possibly on weekends. The ESY responsibilities will coincide with the ESY calendar. ESY is responsibilities are typically 6-8 hours per day, 3 days per week for 6-8 weeks during the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s Degree special education, psychology, social work, or related behavioral health field
Master's degree in special education, psychology, social work, or related behavioral health field
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Certificate issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a BCBA/Autism Specialist working in a school district or similar educational based setting with children
SCOPE OF WORK:
Attend weekly autism team meetings
Design and supervise implementation of programming for specific students
Train and evaluate teacher assistants assigned to work with students on the autism spectrum
Assist classroom teachers with the creation of learning materials, discrete trial training, behavioral interventions
Observe students in the process of a comprehensive developmental assessment for ASD and provide written feedback to the referring teacher/team
Supervise the collection of data and maintenance of files to monitor student progress
Analyze data and modify curriculum and instructional strategies
Plan and conduct student progress monitoring meetings with data and information from parents
Act as a liaison between TQP teams and classroom teachers Communicate with parents regarding concerns and programming
Coordinate with IEP case manager to develop goals and objectives based on observations and assessment data
Provide on-going training to classroom teachers and teacher assistants in Applied Behavior Analysis and other research based methodologies for students on the autism spectrum
Work collaboratively with teachers of autism in ESY programs
Travel to school sites as required
Maintain regular contact with classroom teachers, intervention specialists, and supervisors
Be knowledgeable in the tools utilized to assess students suspected of being on the autism spectrum and provide input to the TQPs regarding specific interventions based on evaluation results
EVALUATION OF SERVICES:
Student progress as indicated 5-minute interval sheets and other data collection systems
Thoroughness of necessary paperwork completion related to service (FBAs, intervention plans, assessments)
Participation and presentations at meetings related to evaluations and proposed IEP goals
Ability to provide needed coverage
Communication with school district?s contact person relative to concerns with programming and service
