Position: Materials Manager
Reports to: Vice President & General Manager
Location: Lugoff, SC Date: July 19, 2017
General Accountability: The Materials Manager will report to the Vice President / GM and will be a vital part of the leadership team. The material manager is responsible for leading all materials/supply chain functions, including but not limited to: Master Scheduling, Planning, Customer Fulfillment, Receiving, Shipping, Logistics, Inventory Control, Procurement, MRO buying. Supervision includes all Material team members to ensure the production operations always have the right material at the right time in the right quantity. The Materials Manager will work closely with sales on new and existing customer quote requirements and lead times. This is an excellent position to gain additional management experience and participate in staff-level decisions, as well as work hand-in-hand with Supervisors and Operators.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for Inventory Accuracy. Error tracking/reporting, auditing and root cause problem solving. all data entry is to be completed timely and accurately.
Ensure all Materials team members are trained properly and that a back up exists for all positions. Ensure all team members have opportunities for cross training.
Ensure all materials areas inside and outside the plant are orderly and kept in the highest housekeeping standards.
Assist and provide manpower to execute cycle counts and physical inventories and reconciliations as required.
Manage returnable dunnage to ensure it is always in good condition.
Perform space management activities to ensure safe and orderly storage of materials in conjunction with good material handling and inventory control methodologies.
Recommend process improvements that would benefit the overall efficiency of the materials receipt to point of use processes.
Comply with all safety policies and procedures. Including ensuring all team members are certified according to current OSHA regulations.
Review daily build schedules and ensure materials coverage for normal production, overtime and weekend work. Must anticipate customer line changes and have material ready to minimize downtime.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities with timely procurement of prototype materials, purchased content, and / or outsourced activities to fullfill customer timelines.
Establish efficient and cost effective transportation and load utilization for in-bound material from external suppliers and warehouses.
Manage and control notification to the plant buyer regarding stock from external stock.
The Materials Manager must have the ability to set goals and hold the team accountable to achieve these goals. Must have excellent communication skills, and must take responsibility for their actions.
Requirements
A BS degree from an accredited university is required, along with at least 5 years of material management needed. The Materials Manager will need a solid background in safety, quality and leadership. A strong focus on continuous improvement and employee training and development in required. Good communication and leadership skills are critical. The Materials Manager will be responsible for all daily aspects of leading a safe, efficient and motivated the team. Excellent PC and ERP computer skills required with emphasis in Excel and Access. Exposure to ISO 9001:2008 standard. MRP experience is essential.
