Accounting Associate Job Opening in Washington, District of columbia - National Skills Coalition (NSC) is advocating for an America that grows its economy by investing in its people , so that every worker and every industry has the skills to compete and prosper.
(NSC) seek a part-time Accounting Associate to assist 3 day per week (20 - 30 hours) in organizational accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, payroll, grants accounting, payables, and receivables. The Accounting Associate will assist in the preparation of month close activities, fringe benefit reporting, annual audit, compiling financial data for analysis, and will work with the Finance Director to ensure accuracy, timeliness and usefulness of resulting financial statements. The Operations Department is led by a full-time Finance Director, so we are looking for a strong Accounting Associate to be engaged in the daily operations.
The qualified candidate will have a deep understanding of bookkeeping, accounting and impact of transactions on the overall financial picture; have strong interpersonal skills to work with our dedicated staff members; and have relentless attention to detail and exceptional organization and time-management practices. The Accounting Associate will work in our Dupont Circle office.
General Responsibilities (percentages are approximate):
Accounting (60% of time): Maintain accounting function, manage all accounts, ledgers, transactions and cash management. Prepare semi-monthly payroll and maintain all personnel records and manage relationship with payroll vendor. Assist in the preparation of records for annual audit preparation, coordinate field work with external auditors. Manage bank balances, including contributions to board reserves and managing staff credit cards. Track spending for all grant funds to ensure proper expenditure of funds and accurate financial reporting to funders. Maintain all accounting systems and software, provide input for systems improvement.
Office Operations (25% of time): Support Finance Director with event budgeting, meeting participant reimbursements, employee expense reports and timesheets. Manage relationship with insurance broker and bankers.
Human Resources (15% of time): Support Finance Director on benefits management. Enroll new employees in benefits and ensure proper termination from benefits for departing or withdrawn employees. Prepare semi-monthly and annual pension reports.
Candidate Qualifications
Associate?s degree + 3 years or 5 years of commensurate experience required
Excellent QuickBooks and Excel skills required
Experience in accounting for nonprofit sector or small business preferred
