On-Call Wheelchair Van Operator Job Opening in Bremerton, Washington - Wheelchair Van / Shuttle Driver (On-Call)
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides door-to-door transportation service for passengers who cannot use a typical means of transportation.
Safely transports ambulatory and wheelchair bound passengers to and from facilities, medical appointments and home.
Assists passengers with mobility issues into and out of wheelchairs and vehicles.
Safely operates company-owned specialty vehicle.
Speaks clearly and efficiently using a two-way radio.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
Provides excellent customer service, maintaining a positive and friendly demeanor while assisting physically and sometimes psychologically impaired individuals.
Navigates county and city roads using general knowledge and map reading skills.
Properly documents transports on a computer or tablet.
Requirements:
Must live within 30-minutes of our office in Bremerton, WA (If you do not meet this requirement please do not apply - thank you!)
Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule. This is an on-call position. Wheelchair Van Operators work an 8-hour on-call shift, 08:00-16:00, 16:00-00:00, or 00:00-08:00. The on-call rate is $3.00 per hour. If called in during the shift, the Wheelchair Van Operator makes an additional $11.00 per hour for hours transporting passengers or performing other duties as assigned.
Current and valid Washington State Driver License and a clean driving record that meets our insurability criteria.
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers Card preferred. (May be obtained at company expense, after an offer of employment has been made).
Able to pass a criminal background check.
Able to pass a physical abilities test. Must have the physical ability to lift and move a passenger into and or out of a wheelchair or vehicle while in a wheelchair, safely.
Must have general mechanical abilities to operate wheelchair lifts and ramps as well as secure mobility aides inside of vehicles.
Must demonstrate proficient knowledge of the roads and highways in Kitsap County.
Must have the temperament to work with disabled and challenging individuals while being kind and patient at all times.
Must have the ability to behave professionally and in a likeable and friendly manner when working with staff from other agencies and facilities.
