ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises & trains hourly work force in the efficient repair and maintenance of railroad tank cars and other railroad rolling stock. Ensures AAR, DOT (regulatory) and company quality control standards are adhered to by inspecting all completed work. Adheres to established production schedules by monitoring work in process and thereby effectively scheduling his/her subordinates. Implements the safety program as established by SOPs enforces compliance with all safety rules, ensures hazardous conditions are corrected promptly and works towards eliminating employee injuries. Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities and responsible care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
JOB OVERVIEW
Following company procedures, this person supervises the activities of hourly workers in all phases of car repair work. He/she is responsible for ensuring car repairs are conducted safely and person will be part of the selection process for new employees, and will then train, motivate and discipline his/her direct addition to overseeing the repair work, the person is also responsible for the quality of all repairs performed by his/her team. They will maintain AAR, DOT (regulatory) and company standards by careful inspection of all completed work. The inspection of completed work is critical in maintaining the company's high standards and good customer duties relative to labor reporting and material consumption are performed as part of the role as well. This reporting must be accurate and prompt to ensure the job is charged properly and waste is person schedules his/her work force, adhering to established production schedules whenever possible. In addition,he/she keeps abreast of work in process to help others maintain efficient scheduling of work throughout the shop.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in the US for any company without sponsorship
HS Diploma or GED required Previous experience in tank car or railcar repair strongly preferred
2-3 years of supervisory experience required (managing employees, labor and material reporting, safety / quality training, etc.)
Detail orientation required
Tank car repair experience preferred
Ability to learn AAR & FRA regulations
Solid computer skills (MS Word & Excel); ability to learn proprietary software required Ability to read / interpret blueprints and drawings required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to pass education and employment verifications required Ability to pass a drug / alcohol test required
Ability to pass a company physical required (; lift/carry up to 50lbs; enter manway openings both heights and confined spaces; hearing/vision tests; ability to wear safety equipment including a respirator; other physical requirements as required by the job)
