Position Description
Position: Therapist
Purpose: To assure the effective and efficient delivery of professional mental health services to a designated population or caseload.
Reports To: Clinical Services Manager
Employment Classification: Non-exempt
Wage Scale Classification: Therapist I, II, and III.
All below as defined by the WA Department of Health Criteria for professional Licensure and Washington State Law.
Therapist I: Master?s degree from an accredited institution with little to no professional experience. Must maintain a Counselor Associate licensure with DoH. An associate is a pre-licensure candidate with a graduate degree in a mental health field. (RCW 18.225.090) The associate is gaining the experience necessary to become a licensed independent clinical social worker, licensed advanced social worker, licensed mental health counselor or licensed marriage and family therapist.
Therapist II : Master?s degree from an accredited college or university and ability to perform as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) as defined in WAC .
(1) A psychiatrist, psychologist, psychiatric nurse or social worker as defined in chapters 71.05 and 71.34 RCW; (2) A person with a masters degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university. Such person shall have, in addition, at least two years of experience in direct treatment of persons with mental illness or emotional disturbance, such experience gained under the supervision of a mental health professional.
Must be licensed with DOH or contracted with the agency to obtain their license within one year.
Therapist III: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or ARNP (therapy only position; not practicing as a prescriber). *Licensed mental health professionals that are able to bill Medicare for services as defined by the Center for Medicare Services.
General Description: A therapist provides professional () level and range of clinical services in the mental health field to individuals and groups. This position is responsible for assuring delivery of an expert level of therapeutic interventions to varied client populations, depending on program assignment, for performing mental health assessments or diagnostic evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing those plans for an assigned caseload. The therapist also provides clinical support and consultation to other professionals.
Position Requirements:
Master?s degree in Behavioral Health field.
Computer competency.
Able to work independently, assume full responsibility for performance of specific duties and performance arenas, and evidence excellent organizational skills.
Evidence of self-motivation and excellent time management skills.
Evidence of successful work experience collaborating with clients, fellow staff, and cross-system organizations.
Evidence of knowledge of public mental health service delivery system and ability to function contextually and well within the system as well as provider agency.
Therapist positions require eligibility for certification with Washington State within their degree field.
Duties of the Position:
Provide professional mental health assessments, including DSM V/ICD 10 diagnosis.
Develop individualized treatment plans.
Implement individualized treatment plans.
Provide effective and professional clinical interventions.
Perform other duties as requested.
Maintain productivity standards.
Demonstrate current knowledge of and adherence to guidelines and laws governing client authorization and eligibility for services.
Develop programs or program activities to meet treatment goals, client population need.
Adhere to professional and ethical standards of practice.
Perform duties in compliance with and congruent to contracts defining service options.
Provide consultation to other persons and organizations as required.
Coordinate services with other persons and agencies as required.
Provide clinical supervision to other staff as required.
Perform outreach, emergency, or other services as may be necessary.
Promote DBH Mission, values, goals, and overall programmatic, fiscal, and administrative success.
Be familiar with and abide by the policies and procedures of DBH as set forth in its Personnel Manual, and Policies and Procedures Manual, or as may be provided by management.
Maintain cordial, respectful and professional relationships with customers, public, community, cross system agencies, and fellow workers.
Identify and formulate solutions to agency problems, respectfully engaging in needed group process.
Contribute to and effective and professional operation.
Maintain appropriate and approved work hours and work space.
Attend regular meetings.
Attend such Team meetings as are necessary to improve or maintain effective clinical, program management, and agency function.
Complete required documentation and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
Oversee supervision of interns as deemed necessary (Therapist III Only).
Assist with other teams (Access, Harbor House, etc.) as needed.
