Postdoctoral Research Fellow ? Biology (SC-23804) Job Opening in seattle, Washington - Postdoctoral Research Fellow ? Biology (SC-23804) Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. The Hutchinson Center, in collaboration with its clinical and research partners, the University of Washington and Seattle Children?s Hospital, is the only comprehensive cancer center in the Pacific Northwest designated by the National Cancer Institute. Recognized internationally for pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation, the Center?s five divisions combine to create a unique environment for conducting basic and applied science. The Brent Lab in the Basic Sciences Division studies the quantitative function of cellular information sensing, transmitting, and decision-making systems. Embedded in a flourishing biological research environment, the lab?s multidisciplinary team seeks insights into how cells sense external information, encode and transmit quantitative information internally, and ultimately operate on that information to make decisions. This work is grounded in careful, directed experimentation on a prototypical cell signaling system, the pheromone response system in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Responsibilities The postdoctoral fellow will join and continue to develop a research program of genetically-enabled quantitative physiological experimentation to understand by the Saccharomyces cerevisiae pheromone response system. Qualifications The postdoctoral fellow must be a talented and dedicated experimentalist, as evidenced by significant graduate or postdoctoral work reflected in important papers. The fellow must have real interest in participating in and eventually leading work that makes an important contribution to scientific understanding. Because the work will involve researchers who are not veteran biologists (for example, research fellows trained in experimental physics), the biology fellow should be numerate, articulate, willing to teach, and comfortable talking about concepts from mathematics and physics. Moreover, the fellow must have an interest in learning to work across these disciplinary boundaries to address important problems in biology.
