Sales Engineer Job Opening in Birmingham, Michigan - Petoskey Plastics, an environmentally focused film, bag and resin manufacturer providing superior products & solutions to the automotive industry, is expanding its sales force and is seeking a self-motivated Sales Engineer to work with existing Automotive OEM clients to provide a fuller range of products to this loyal customer base as well as uncover new opportunities with prospective customers in the Automotive industry.
The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where they can help clients improve efficiencies and increase profitability through innovation and design of products and offerings. The Sales Engineer will work well independently but will enjoy collaborating with a team of professionals to provide solutions to clients. Ideally, the individual should enjoy ensuring existing customer success while uncovering opportunities to provide additional products and services to help customers grow and expand our effectiveness with our clients. The Sales Engineer will be the primary contact for customers both local to the Detroit, MI area as well as across the country and will be skilled at account planning and territory activity planning to maximize effectiveness. The individual must enjoy both the face-to-face interaction with customers as well as the technical details to aid in the design work to solve customer problems.
The Sales Engineer will:
Collaborate with customers on initial design, revision and development of Automotive OEM products
Use consultative sales skills to provide value to customers and prospects alike
Conduct sales activities to generate new revenue including securing appointments with decision makers, conducting thorough qualifying conversations, and closing new business alone and with the help of the division manager
Search for and find new opportunities with current customers and uncover opportunities with prospects
Provide accurate quotes to customers and prospects and manage the pipeline of opportunities appropriately
Advise management of sales trends in the assigned regions based on discovery from field research
Monitor competitive activity and trends within territory
Represent the company at trade and association meetings to sell and promote products
Understand lead times and work closely with sales coordinators and warehouse to maintain on-time delivery
Respond to customer requests and inquiries via phone and insure customer success
Knowledge and Skills preferred:
Degree in Engineering
Analytical, mathematical and other quantitative skills
Effective communication skills - verbal and written
Inquisitiveness
Courage to ask for the business and close sales
Service oriented approach to problem solving
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
Contact management software experience
Able to fly and drive, long and short distances
