SUMMARY:
The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and oversee the day-to-day activities of the accounting department to include the production of timely financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, ensure effective internal controls and that reported results comply with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position must also ensure financial compliance with federal, state and pharmaceutical industry laws and regulations. This position will interface with senior-level management which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise a staff of 5-6 accountants who are responsible for a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger and entity accounting, inventory accounting, accounts payable, cash disbursements, cash receipts, fixed assets, Concur T&E System and Transparency and Aggregate Spend reporting.
Manage monthly accounting close and prepare timely internal and external financial statements and reports, which may be consolidated and/or by entity.
Collaborate with Controller on the development of accounting policies and procedures.
Prepare audit schedules, interface with the external auditors during the year-end audit and assist with preparation of footnotes to the annual audited financial statements.
Act as liaison with IT for accounting-related projects and troubleshooting.
Safeguard assets and accurately and timely record all transactions by ensuring effective internal controls, policies and procedures are in place.
Ensure validity and integrity of financial transactions.
Create and maintain reliable documentation to provide a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Establish, monitor and advise direct reports regarding individual annual goals and objectives, to enhance the professional development of staff.
Participate in ad hoc projects, including, supporting budget/forecast activities and providing schedules needed by tax accountants.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with department managers and staff members, at all levels of the company to support organizational goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or related discipline.
A combination of 7 years of public accounting and private industry experience with a minimum 5 years of public.
Experience preparing financial statements and related footnotes in accordance with GAAP.
Minimum of 2 years leading and developing others.
CPA preferred.
Pharmaceutical industry experience a strong plus, but not required.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPS), Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or other automated accounting system.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
