Insight Memory Care Center, is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide specialized care, support and education for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other memory impairments, their families, caregivers, and the community through our adult day health and resource center. Serving Northern Virginia since 1984, IMCC offers a spectrum of holistic care, education and support, with a vision of a community where those affected by memory impairments can achieve the highest quality of life. IMCC also provides a safe and therapeutic environment for people in all stages of dementia. A vital part of IMCC is providing a well-rounded therapeutic recreation program that meets the physical, cognitive and social needs of each participant.

IMCC is seeking and Education and Outreach Coordinator who is part of a team that interfaces with the participants and their caregivers, local geriatric healthcare professionals, and the community at large to promote the work of the Center. The Education and Outreach Coordinator provides support for early stage programs, caregiver training, support groups, staff education and training, and a variety of promotional and caregiver training speaking opportunities and other duties that further the mission of the Center. The Education and Outreach Coordinator is also responsible for becoming certified as a SHARE Counselor and directly supervising the Support Services Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for Consultations and Support program ?
Serve as backup for Support Services Coordinator for support group facilitation, Memory Café, Mind and Body Workshop, and Parkinson?s Social Network.
Become certified as a SHARE counselor to create SHARE Plan for families, during the six week counseling sessions, as well as oversee Support Services Coordinator to ensure that all metrics are achieved for SHARE Program sessions
Responsibilities for Care Consultation
Talk with prospective members, assessing appropriateness to groups.
Provide individual and family care consultation for the general community, as well as participant families, as requested.
Responsibilities for Community Outreach/Education
Seek out, arrange for, and conduct educational presentations on Alzheimer?s disease and related topics to places of worship, community groups, and professional organizations in collaboration with the Community Relations Manager.
Be available to speak about the overall IMCC program to those same groups, bringing the message of IMCC?s services to a broad audience.
At times, be available to attend community forums, health fairs, meetings etc. to represent IMCC.
Participate in the coordination, training, and be a speaker for the segment of Classes for Caregivers.
Participate in various collaborative efforts with other professionals in long term care to develop and conduct education programs for the general public.

The qualified individual must also have the:
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and conduct correspondence related to the work.
Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of others.
Ability to obtain accurate social data, to record such data systematically, and to write clear, accurate, and concise reports.
Ability to make independent judgments.
Ability to evaluate caregiver concerns and provide advice for support.
Ability to work with other disciplines as part of a treatment team.
Knowledge of the characteristics and social aspects of dementia.
Knowledge of current trends in mental hygiene, public health and public welfare, and federal and state programs in these fields.
Education
Graduation from college with a Bachelor?s Degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology, Health Services, or related field. Master?s degree preferred.
Experience
Experience in public speaking, support group facilitation, in planning and executing educational classes for family caregivers, professional caregivers, and providing 1:1 consultations. Experience in long-term care settings or Adult Day Health Care services preferred. Extensive experience in dementia and various other types of memory impairments required (4 years minimum).
