JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary Range:
$75,000-$90,000 DOE Benefits TBD
Position Summary:
The Executive Director shall plan, organize, carry out, and report on the programs and affairs of the Association as directed by the Board of Directors of the Association through its President and Executive Committee members; assume responsibility for the financial management, budgeting, and reporting for the Association; and shall manage the Association Office and its personnel by recruiting and hiring the personnel necessary to fulfil the work requirements of the organization as approved by the President and Board of Directors. While the Executive Director is accountable and will be available to all Board Members, they will work directly with and communicate to the President of the NLBRA as outlined in the NLBRA Rulebook. Assist in the organization of and participate in the operation of the Association?s National Finals Rodeo and other events as assigned and authorized by the Association?s Board of Directors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Within the parameters set forth in the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Association and the policies adopted by the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for the following primary duties and responsibilities:
Governance:
? Ensure that the Board is proactively informed about the condition and the operations of the Association and other important matters impacting the Association. Must identify, assess and inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the Association.
? Provide information, advice, and counsel to the Board President and officers in the
execution of their duties.
? Maintain clear and open communications with funding and collaborating entities, working
with them to foster a culture of trust and collaboration within the organization.
? Provide the necessary liaison and staff support to committees and operational volunteers to help them properly fulfill their functions.
? Oversee the planning and coordination of all meetings of the Board and collaborate with
the Board President to establish written meeting agendas. Maintain clear and complete
minutes and other records required for maintaining the Associations not-for-profit tax
exempt status.
Operational Planning and Management:
? Oversee the efficient and effective day to day operations of the Association. Keep on file correct records between the Association and Membership. Attend to all correspondence necessary to conduct the affairs of the Association, such as overseeing of record keeping and bill payment.
? Maintain open communications with sponsors, vendors, event venues, governmental
entities, rodeo organizations, and other stakeholders and direct them to the appropriate lines of communication within the organization. Initiate and direct appropriate communication among staff, between staff and volunteers and the board to facilitate the
effective operation of the organization.
? Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective association services.
Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the
organizations mission and reflect the priorities of the Board. Demonstrate unwavering
commitment to program quality and operational ethics.
? Act as primary media spokesperson and contact for the Association. Maintain and preserve the well-established positive image of the Association.
? Maintain effective relationships with external organizations including but not limited to
other equine or rodeo organizations and corporate partners.
? Identify, recommend, and implement activities designed to increase awareness of the
Association within the rodeo community. Strategize and implement new sponsor
recruiting opportunities with intent to increase revenue for the Association programs.
Human Resources Planning and Management:
? Recommend and implement the organizational structure for the NLBRA staff and
operational volunteers within parameters established by the Board. Determine staff and
volunteer requirements.
? Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, development, compensation, and discharge of
staff under the direction of and with the approval of the Board or the Executive
Committee.
? Establish administrative policies and procedures for Association programs or events.
Legal and Financial Planning and Management:
? Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of effective Association services.
Ensure that programs and services offered by the Association contribute to the
Association?s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.
? Negotiate and execute minor contracts as necessary, provide for monitoring of services
under such contracts, and assure substantial compliance with contract obligations.
? Prepare, submit, and oversee implementation of an annual budget and management controls related to the Association?s annual operation; and submit detailed monthly accounting reports to the Association Board of Directors, including all income and expenses as well as franchise late payments, sponsor collections, etc.
? Serve as a non-voting, ex officio member of all standing committees
Job Factors:
? Travel will be required to represent the Association at various events and trade shows, as
well as the NLBRA National Finals Rodeo. Travel time may be extensive, up to 25% of
the position hours. All travel must be pre-approved by the Association?s Board of
Directors. Travel expenses will be pre-paid or reimbursed at the discretion of the Board.
? Degree in Business Administration preferred with emphasis on Accounting.
? Experience in management of a non-profit corporation preferred.
? Experience in marketing, public relations, public speaking, and contract negotiations
required.
? Knowledge of and experience in the operation of large rodeo or equine events.
? Consideration will be given to candidates willing to relocate within commuting distance of the NLBRA National Office in Colorado Springs, CO.
