To support our mission, we are looking for an Assistive Technology Specialist to join the In-House Services Department which is located in North Central Austin, TX at 4800 N. Lamar - Criss Cole.
The Assistive Technology Specialist performs routine (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves assisting with planning, developing, and implementing an agency program and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, or the general public. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive assistive technology evaluations and training to Division of Blind Services (DBS) consumers in support of the agency's Texas Confidence Builders Philosophy.
GENERAL DUTIES: -Performs an array of technical, training, research, planning, policy, program assessment, and administrative activities related to program assignment under the direct supervision of the In-House Services Manager.-Provides support and works in partnership with Assistive Technology Unit staff to research the latest trends in assistive and non-assistive as liaison to staff, government agencies, community organizations, or the general public to assist in explaining program specifics and program(s) to community and professional groups to encourage and/or improve interest in the program(s).-Assists program staff in determining trends and resolving technical problems.-Assists in the collection, organization, analysis, and/or preparation of materials in response to requests for program in providing consultative services and technical assistance for agency in and coordinates testing for potential assistive technology contract evaluators and trainers including test development.-Serves as primary point of contact for internal and external entities related to assistive technology.-May train others.-Performs related work as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Experience in working with individuals using assistive in conducting assistive technology evaluations.
Duty requires up to 10% travel (within the state of Texas) and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
The salary for this position is $3,081.33 - $4,x.00 per month, depending on qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university plus two years of full-time experience in the development, implementation, or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public or private agency.- Twelve semester hours of graduate study from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of the required qualifying experience.- A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university will satisfy the minimum qualifications.- One additional year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
